Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is making an admission that is sure to enrage Chiefs fans. On the latest episode of his New Heights podcast, Kelce confessed that he wasn’t at his “best” during the game. The Super Bowl occurred two days after he enjoyed a date night out in New Orleans with his girlfriend Taylor Swift.
Kelce’s Big Super Bowl Admission
“I feel like I owe the guys that I come into that building with a whole lot more effort and focus,” began Kelce, 35. “I just don’t know what it was during that game man, I wasn’t at my best.”
“The more that I see clips or watch the film and put myself back into those moments, man, I’m just like “what the [expletive],” he added.
Kelce’s 36 year-old brother Jason tried to comfort him, saying, “Don’t overanalyze it Trav. You’re the king of not overanalyzing, so don’t overanalyze it.”
Kelce, however, would not be deterred.
“But that’s how I find motivation,” he explained. “That’s how I create the beast, that’s how I flick the switch.”
Two days before the Super Bowl, Kelce and Swift raised eyebrows when they were spotted on a date night. They were joined by the Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany. On that Friday night, the two couples were seen eating at the popular French restaurant Lilette on Magazine Street. Many Chiefs fans felt that this was not the time for Kelce and Mahomes to be enjoying a night out.
It should be noted, Mahomes played exceptionally poorly for his standards as well, throwing two ugly picks and no touchdowns until garbage time.

Kelce Will Play Another Season
Kelce’s latest admission comes days after he finally confirmed that he won’t be retiring. Instead, he’ll play another season with the Chiefs. Kelce was asked by Jason if he has any extra motivation heading into this NFL season.
“Yes and no,” Kelce replied. “Unfortunately I’ve been in a situation where I didn’t play my best in the final game and the biggest game of my life.”
“You try and make it everything and you don’t find the love of the game doing that, and I feel like I play my best when I’m out there playing for the right reasons,” Kelce continued. “Can it be motivation in the offseason to go out and get a few extra reps, go out and run that extra mile, go out and get a few more catches on the jugs, go out and work a little bit harder, watch some extra film. Really analyze what you’re showing the opponent, really analyze how you’re running your routes so that guys can’t get a tick on what route you’re running.”
Kelce Wants To Keep Things In Perspective
Kelce went on to say that he’s determined to keep things in perspective.
“All of that can help get you where you are, but you can’t go into it like this mad human being that has this built-up animosity about the world and how it didn’t go this way, and ‘I’ll only be satisfied if it goes my way,’ because after Tampa [Super Bowl defeat in 2021] it didn’t go my way, I didn’t even make it back to the Super Bowl that next year,” he recalled.
“There’s ways to go out there and motivate yourself to be better than you were yesterday, get extra reps and put everything you can into your preparation,” Kelce concluded. “But at the end of the day, I play my best when I go out there and have fun man. I don’t play my best when I go out there and I’m pissed off at the world and I’m trying to be the bully cause I’m playing against guys that act like the bullies.”
It will certainly be interesting to see if Kelce can make it back to the Super Bowl this season. If he does, we can only imagine that he’ll save the date nights for after the big game!
