Former Duke sharpshooter J.J. Redick denies that his podcast has had a powerfully poisonous effect on the precision of Derrick White
As the Celtics took on the Toronto Raptors Monday night, broadcaster Drew Carter brought up a bit of a shooting slump that Boston star Derrick White has been on recently. Then he said White had recently appeared on former NBA player J.J. Redick’s podcast, The Old Man and The Three, and that may be what “cursed” him.
A Story Behind The Slump
White appeared most recently with J.J. Redick on January 5. It was a standard discussion about the player’s career and the outlook for the team.
But following the day of that episode (Jan. 5) and January 15, Derrick White shot 34.5% from the field and 32.1% from three. That’s a fairly noticeable dropoff from his season-long numbers of 47.4% from the field and 41% from three.
So during his description of the action, Carter attributed White’s struggles to appearing on Redick’s podcast, calling it a curse. He also added that the Celtics shooter had a similar slump just after appearing on the former Duke star’s show in December 2022.
J.J. Redick Says He’s NOT To Blame
Redick gave a bit of a playful response on social media, by simply posting, “I am listening, @NBCSBoston.”
For his part, White appears to have broken the so-called curse on Monday. He went five-for-11 from three-point range and nailed a huge jumper to seal the win against the Raptors.
So, with that thrilling win? Will the Celtics broadcast team give the credit to J.J. Redick?
Stay Tuned.
