Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier was arrested last week as part of a federal probe into a massive sports betting scheme.

Authorities allege he tipped off gamblers in 2023 about leaving a game early due to injury, enabling a massive amount of money to be bet on the under for his stats that night. The news prompted the NBA to place Rozier on leave.

But the arrest has also brought Rozier’s prior legal troubles back to the surface, including a 2019 paternity suit filed by his ex-partner, Polish bikini model Monika Jawdynska.

Jawdynska accused Rozier of being a deadbeat dad for failing to support or visit their newborn daughter, and argued that his millionaire status shouldn’t exempt him from responsibility.

Rozier made over $160 million in his career. Yet, he somehow struggled to pay child support and had to turn to gambling – a career killer in sports – to keep up.

Terry Rozier’s child support case

Lawyers for Jawdynska argued that the mother repeatedly tried to engage the NBA star and introduce his daughter into his life, but he showed no interest.

“The father was not present at her birth nor had any desire to be present,” her lawyers wrote. “The Mother attempts to get the Father involved in the baby’s life but he doesn’t even ask for her pictures.”

Terry Rozier eventually acknowledged paternity via a DNA test and claimed he voluntarily paid child support, according to the Daily Mail.

According to court documents obtained by the outlet, Rozier is accused of having “several children scattered throughout the United States,” which “makes it very difficult to coordinate a timesharing schedule.”

The case was settled in September 2020 under undisclosed terms.

More recently, social media shows Rozier engaging with his now 7-year-old daughter and taking part in her life. The girl is active in gymnastics.

Good that he got that aspect of his life straightened out.

Charles Barkley slams Rozier for stupidity

Basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley recently voiced his opinion on Terry Rozier and the other NBA players involved in the scandal. He wasn’t kind about it either.

Rozier’s arrest stemmed from suspicious betting patterns from a March 23, 2023, game between the Charlotte Hornets and New Orleans Pelicans, when he was with the Hornets.

Sportsbooks in multiple states detected an unusual surge in bets on the under for Rozier’s points, rebounds, and assists—including $13,759 in wagers from a professional bettor in just 46 minutes—prompting them to suspend betting on his props. Rozier played only 10 minutes before exiting with a reported foot injury.

“This ain’t got nothing to do with addiction. These dudes are stupid,” Barkley insisted. “You can, under no circumstances, fix basketball games. Under no circumstances.”

“I love to gamble. Rozier makes $26 million. Him giving people information or taking himself out of games, how much is he going to benefit taking himself out of games to hit unders?” added Barkley. “He’s making $26 million.”

Additionally, Rozier was involved in a 2022 lawsuit over a failed $6,000 sports memorabilia deal that was later dropped.

He was released on October 23 after posting a $6 million bond.
