Former Minnesota Vikings running back and NFL legend Adrian Peterson was arrested in Texas on Sunday morning for driving while intoxicated (DWI). He was also hit with a weapons charge.

The 40-year-old was taken into custody around 10 a.m. local time on Sunday, according to Fort Bend County records, and booked on one charge of DWI and one charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon.

Let me repeat that – he was arrested for DWI at 10 in the morning.

Remarkably, this marks Peterson’s second DWI arrest this year. He was arrested in Minnesota this past April after being nabbed driving 83 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Peterson, during the previous arrest, had a blood alcohol level of 0.14. He was picked up after attending the Vikings’ NFL draft celebration.

Adrian Peterson’s latest issues

This incident adds to Peterson’s history of legal troubles, of which there have been many well-documented instances.

Peterson, last year, was facing arrest warrants in Texas for failing to appear in court for two separate child support cases. Months before that, a Houston judge ordered him to relinquish numerous assets to settle an overwhelming debt exceeding $12 million.

The court’s decision involved the seizure of personal assets, including memorabilia from his storied career, such as NFL trophies and jerseys.

The three-time rushing yard leader was famously indicted on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child in 2016 but avoided a jail sentence after reaching a plea agreement.

He was suspended and fined by the league, but had those punishments overturned on appeal. The NFL, though, would eventually win its own appeal, overturning that ruling.

Peterson was also involved in an incident with his wife on a plane in 2022. Those charges were dropped after she indicated it was nothing more than an argument.

Prolific on AND off the field

Adrian Peterson is regarded in some circles as one of the greatest running backs in NFL history. He is known for his exceptional athleticism, power, and record-breaking performances.

This includes a record-setting 296-yard game in 2007 against the San Diego Chargers. Peterson’s numerous career highlights showcase his impact on the sport.

He also has six children.

Peterson is a surefire Hall of Famer, having earned NFL MVP honors in 2012 with over 2,000 rushing yards, seven Pro Bowl selections, and a fifth-place ranking on the all-time NFL rushing list.
