Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown, a seven-time Pro Bowler who last played in 2021, has been arrested for attempted second-degree murder.

The shocking development follows an altercation at an Aidan Ross boxing event in South Florida earlier this year between Brown and several people. That altercation involved Brown allegedly opening fire on Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu during a dispute.

Tom Brady‘s former teammate, though, claims he acted in self-defense to thwart an attempted robbery and assault.

After fleeing to Dubai to evade U.S. authorities, Brown was extradited this week, escorted by federal agents through New York City, and transferred to custody in Miami-Dade County.

He is currently being held on one count of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, another in a long line of progressively escalating legal issues for the 37-year-old.

Antonio Brown accused of attempted murder

See, this is the kind of thing that happens when NFL team after NFL team placates a guy with clear and present mental health issues just because of his ability to catch an oddly-shaped ball.

Not to mention all the crazy social media posts that we all point and laugh at, but which also show an obviously troubled man spiraling out of control.

Videos on social media back in May show Brown getting into a brawl with several men. A brawl that moves slowly through an alley.

Another video clip showed Brown running back towards the melee, and shots can be heard being fired off shortly thereafter. Spectators in the clip end up scattered after hearing the shots.

Victim is trouble too

The alleged victim in this case appears to be no angel, himself. Reports surfaced showing Nantambu apparently waved a Palestinian flag during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance in February.

In June, he was arrested on charges of resisting an officer and disturbing the peace by interrupting a lawful assembly. Those two incidents are linked.

Brown claimed that Nantambu had stalked him at multiple events and, due to the incident in Florida, was left “fighting for my life.”

Antonio Brown filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in a Florida federal court last year, according to a Times Union report.

He claimed to have nearly $3 million in debt to eight creditors and assets worth $50,000 or less. The latter of which is odd considering the address he filed under is, the report states, an 18,000-square-foot, 12-bedroom, 14-bathroom mansion in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Brown played 12 seasons in the NFL and earned over $80 million, including more than $44 million over a three-year stretch with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Prior to his bankruptcy filing, Antonio Brown also found himself in repeated trouble regarding child support payments. In 2023, he was arrested multiple times for failing to make child support payments.

He’s not exactly a pillar of the community—or even his own family.
