Derwin James Jr., the star safety for the Los Angeles Chargers, has seen his share of passionate coaches throughout his football career, but according to a recent interview with Fox News Digital, his new head coach, Jim Harbaugh, takes that passion to an entirely new level.
“He’d really die on the football field and be happy,” James said, reflecting on just how deeply Harbaugh is invested in the game. “As crazy as that sounds, he’s that much in it.”
James elaborated on what he’s witnessed since Harbaugh took over, noting that the intensity and consistency in Harbaugh’s coaching style have already begun to have a profound impact on him. “Every day you see it in his habits,” James explained. “Every message is the same from every coach [on the staff]. It’s been amazing having him, and I’m pretty sure the more he coaches us, the more I’m going to learn and experience.”

Harbaugh, who boasts an impressive coaching resume, including a 44-19-1 record with the San Francisco 49ers and a perfect 15-0 season at Michigan, has already started to shape the Chargers with his unwavering approach to the game.
James, a natural leader in the locker room, admits that Harbaugh’s influence has boosted his confidence even further. “I would say it definitely has grown more with Coach Harbaugh,” James shared, adding that the coach’s constant encouragement has fueled his drive to elevate his teammates.
As the Chargers gear up for their season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders, all eyes will be on Harbaugh and the impact his fiery coaching style has on the team.
