Sometimes Providence or God or bog shines down on you. At least, that’s how this Packers fan is feeling this morning looking at the sports news.
The Chicago Bears will be the next NFL team to be featured on the long-running HBO series Hard Knocks, which typically follows teams in the offseason on their way to opening day.
So why am I, along with millions of other fans of the Packers, Lions, and Vikings so happy about it?
Because it’s the Bears!
Bears Having a Bear of a Time Lately
As far as nemeses go, the Packers couldn’t have a better one. The Bears are the second-most winningest team in NFL history. They trail only the Packers with a whopping nine Championship trophies. The team has lore galore: The Monsters of the Midway, and the legendary ’85 Bears.
But more recently, it’s been all Packers. In fact, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has never lost to the Bears.
And that’s what makes this so exciting – the Bears have been an awful, clown team the last few years.
First, they actually traded up for Mitch Trubisky. Wouldn’t you have loved for HBO’s cameras to have been in the room for that bonehead decision? Of course, Trubisky flopped just as hard as everyone expected him to.
Then, the Bears put the hopes of their franchise on a guy who can run but can’t throw worth a damn. Like Trubisky, Justin Fields was unceremoniously bounced from Chicago… to be a backup to 35-year-old Russell Wilson.
But there’s reason to believe the Bears on Hard Knocks could be something other than a crapshow.

Bears on Hard Knocks
The Bears, of course, now have reason to believe that their days in the doldrums are over.
Over the last few seasons, they’ve worked on getting weapons around the quarterback carousel, which includes two first round draft picks at receiver – DJ Moore and Keenan Allen.
They are more than serviceable in the running back department with D’Andre Swift, and they have a decent starting tight end in Cole Kmet.
But once again, it appears the Bears have pinned all their hopes on the quarterback. This time, it’s USC’s Caleb Williams.
He was the No 1. overall pick, and as ever, the Bears front office and Boystown (or wherever Bears fans live) is ecstatic that, this time, finally this time, they found the answer.
You can expect a lot, if not most, of the attention to be paid to the Williams story line.
Bears GM Ryan Poles said of his team’s appearance on the show, “The 2024 training camp will be big for us in preparation for achieving our season goals and we look forward to bringing the fans at home along for the journey.”
Don’t get it twisted. Packers fans love the Bears. Sure, they’re our greatest rival, but we are the oldest teams in the league. The Packers and NFL forever owe a debt of gratitude to George Halas. They focus on running and defense, like an old-school team.
Really, this should be a good time for all fans. The Bears will either rise or implode again, and either way, it’s great TV.
