The Cleveland Browns announced on Thursday that they have released pass rusher Lonnie Phelps. The move comes after he was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly driving drunk while crashing his SUV into a restaurant.
A video obtained by TMZ Sports of the incident shows that Phelps was not cooperative with authorities before being thrown into the back of a police car after the accident.
A product of Kansas, Phelps was apprehended by the Key West Police Department in Florida at around 8:47 PM local time outside of the Red Shoe Island Bistro.
Authorities indicate that they were dispatched to the scene after reports of an accident. A Hyundai was seen wedged inside the restaurant.

Authorities say that the 23-year-old Phelps ultimately agreed to field sobriety tests. He became combative after disagreeing about how they were being administered.

Video Of Lonnie Phelps Arrest Is Insane

The police released dashboard video of Phelps in the back seat of a car following his arrest. He was apparently going off about a ton of different thing in what was an unhinged rant.
“Female be tryna kill me.”
“You didn’t turn no heat on.”
“Before a George Wentz incident, can I get some water.”
Here’s the full flip.
Phelps signed with the Browns as an undrafted free agent in May of 2023. He spent his entire rookie season on the team’s practice squad. Obviously, a return to the NFL is the least of his concerns right now.
