Former 49er Colin Kaepernick has changed much of his lifestyle in recent years, and that includes no longer celebrating the holidays

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who drew global attention for his kneeling protests of the National Anthem before NFL football games, revealed during a recent interview that he no longer celebrates Christmas or exchanges gifts. He explained this while during an on-air appearance he made with his longtime girlfriend, Nessa Diab, on her podcast, Nessa Off Air.

No Christmas For Kap

Colin Kaepernick, who has not played in the NFL since 2016, was asked by Nessa’s co-host, Katrina B, what he planned to do with his better half for the holidays. His answer was short, blunt, and to the point.

“We don’t celebrate Christmas,” Kaepernick asserted. Then, Diab jumped in to try and clarify what the former QB meant.

“No, I’ll tell you what,” Diab explained. “We don’t give each other gifts. I think for Colin and I, we just enjoy really great experiences with each other year-round,” she said.

Colin Kaepernick Distanced Himself From Traditional Teachings

While this may have surprised some fans, it really shouldn’t. Colin Kaepernick told several people in 2016 that he had converted to the Islamic faith. Diab is also a Muslim.

“This is an open discussion that I have with many people, not just my woman,” Kaepernick stated. “She is Muslim, her family is Muslim. I have great respect for them. I have great respect for people’s right to believe what they want to believe. And I don’t think anybody should be prosecuted or judged based on what their beliefs are.”

Since his exile from the NFL, Colin Kaepernick has attempted a comeback several times. Most recently, he sent a letter to the Jets earlier this season, seeking a tryout in the wake of Aaron Rodgers’ week 1 injury. However, he was turned away.

Now 36 years old, Colin Kaepernick can still celebrate being an activist, but his days as an athlete appear to be over.
