Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says the team will not entertain the thought of having a tribute video played for their former defensive star Micah Parsons.

The Cowboys organization shocked the NFL world when they traded their star edge rusher to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for two first-round draft picks and defensive end Eric Wilson Clark just before the season started.

The move followed a heated contract dispute where Parsons demanded a trade and subsequently signed a record four-year, $188 million extension with Green Bay, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in league history.

“I don’t think that’s appropriate this way. Emmitt (Smith) was a different story,” Jones said. “But that’s not to diminish Micah. But I think Micah’s got enough ‘welcome,’ out there, and we just need to show we’ve got antidotes for that.”

Jerry Jones’ response to Micah Parsons was the correct One

Micah Parsons played only four seasons with the Cowboys and had a relatively weak performance in their playoff games. He delivered just one sack in four playoff contests for the club.

Notably, the Packers destroyed Dallas in the first round of the playoffs in 2023, posting 48 points and running all over Parsons and the defense at will.

Why any reporter would ask if he deserved a tribute is beyond comprehension. But they did.

That said, Jerry Jones’ handling of the situation could have been much better. Waiting until the eve of the 2025 season to make an offer or make a move left his own players in shock.

Jones was even caught teasing Parsons’ mother about the contract demands her son had put forth, perhaps unknowingly.

Should they honor Him?

That’s not to say the Cowboys organization – and even Jerry Jones – doesn’t sorely miss Micah Parsons. Their defense has been in shambles thus far this season, making rag-armed players like Russell Wilson and Caleb Williams look like Hall of Famers.

However, the man lacked loyalty to the club. He only has loyalty to himself.

Parsons consistently mocked the team’s draft picks before they ever set foot in the locker room and, when given a chance to prop up his own quarterback, couldn’t do it.

Parsons delivered another standout performance in the Cowboys’ last regular season, recording 12 sacks, 43 tackles, and two forced fumbles across 13 games. This, despite missing four contests due to a high-ankle sprain.

He became just the fourth player in NFL history to achieve 10 or more sacks in his first four seasons, joining an elite group including Hall of Famer Reggie White. The season earned him a fourth Pro Bowl selection.
