Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice turned himself in to police at the Tri-City Jail in DeSoto, Texas, Thursday. He is facing eight charges in connection with his role in a multi-vehicle car accident that occurred on the North Central Expressway in Dallas, Texas, late last month.

TMZ reports that Rice has been hit with one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision involving injury.

Rashee Rice’s Role In The Accident

According to reports, Rashee Rice was driving a Lamborghini alongside a Chevrolet Corvette at a high rate of speed. However, both cars lost control, resulting in a multi-car accident on US-75.

The accident was captured by another driver’s dashcam. The video can be seen below.

The accident involved six vehicles in total. Four people were treated for minor injuries, two of whom had to be evaluated at the hospital.

Arrest warrants had been issued for Rice, who admitted to driving the Lamborghini, and 21-year-old Theodore “Teddy” Knox. The latter is a member of the SMU football team.

The Mustangs suspended Knox, though current reports do not indicate he has turned himself in.

Significant Trouble

All eight of the charges Rahsee Rice is facing involving the accident are felonies. He posted a $40,000 bond and was released.

A statement from his attorney, Royce West, indicates the NFL player will continue to cooperate with police regarding the matter.

“Mr. Rashee Rice turned himself in today and was released on bond. I want to re-emphasize Mr. Rice’s continued cooperation with law enforcement,” the statement reads. “Mr. Rice acknowledges his actions and feels deeply for those injured as a result of this accident.”

West also previously urged the media not to define Rashee Rice exclusively by his alleged role in the multi-car accident.

“You call them spoiled, entitled,” West told reporters.

“Why don’t you do a story of who he is, as opposed to what occurred?” he continued. “Because it seems as though what you’re saying is based on this one incident, you’re going to define him based on this incident, as opposed to his entire body of work.”

“I would say each and every one of you, if all of us had to be defined by one incident, that would be ridiculous, as opposed to our entire body,” pleads West. “So I’d ask that you as the media, look at his entire body of work before saying exactly who he is. That will be better.”

Rashee Rice was a rookie in 2023 but quickly blossomed into an integral part of the Kansas City Chiefs offense. He had 79 catches for 938 yards and 7 touchdowns in his first NFL season.

In Super Bowl LVIII, Rice grabbed 6 catches for 39 yards as the Chiefs defeated the 49ers, 25-22. In doing so, those 6 catches earned him the record for most postseason receptions by a rookie.
