The Liberty University Athletics department over the weekend announced the tragic loss of 19-year-old offensive lineman Tajh Boyd.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the loss of one of our student-athletes, Tajh Boyd,” said the statement from LU Vice President and Director of Athletics, Ian McCaw.
“Tajh joined our Liberty University family as recently as January and his impact on the program will be felt for years to come.”
The official Twitter account for the LU Athletics department posted the statement later, adding in the post “We thank God for bringing Tajh into our Liberty Athletics community and we will always remember him as a Flame. Tajh will be missed dearly.”

Conference USA, where LU will begin to play starting this season, also tweeted out their condolences to the Flames community.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of @LibertyFootball student-athlete Tajh Boyd. Our thoughts are with the Boyd family and Flames nation during this difficult time.”
Boyd helped take the his high school team, Oscar F. Smith High School in Chesapeake, Virginia, to back-to-back state championships. His cause of death has not been announced as of the time of this writing.
