Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel recently addressed the media and provided an injury update on quarterback Tua Tagovailoa after he suffered a concussion in the team’s Thursday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Tagovailoa was injured after he viciously sacked by the Bengals’ Josh Tupou.

He would then be carted off the field via a stretcher and the Dolphins would announce via Twitter he was “out of the game with head and neck injuries.”

Following the game, McDaniel confirmed he suffered a concussion telling the media, “It was a scary moment. He was evaluated for a concussion and heā€™s in the concussion protocol. He was at the hospital, I believe heā€™s about to get discharged. That was an emotional moment.ā€

ā€œThat is not part of the deal that anyone signs up for even though you know itā€™s a possibility in football to have something that you have to get taken off in a stretcher. All of his teammates, myself, weā€™re all very concerned. The best news that we could get is that everything is checked out, that he didnā€™t have anything more serious than a concussion. Heā€™ll be flying back with us here on the plane,ā€ he added.

McDaniel recently addressed the press confirming that Tagovailoa will not play against the New York Jets in their October 9th match up.

When asked about how long Tagovailoa will be out, McDaniel responded, “This is something that its too early to give it a definite timeline. I can comfortably say he will be out for this game against the Jets, but anything beyond that we’re again just focused on making sure he’s optimal health and that crossing bridge. So it’s early a little earlier for a definitive timelines beyond that.”

McDaniel went on to say, “Right now, he’s in the building. He’s had a couple of good days, but he’s just trying to go through with the proper procedure and protocol so that he’s feeling 100%. I know he’s got to be diligent with it and if there’s, obviously, any things that are giving him issues in terms of light and those things then we will shut that down.”

McDaniel also addressed questions concerning the team’s decisions and the health protocols that Tagovailoa went through after he exited the game against the Buffalo Bills with what the Dolphins originally reported as a head injury, but was later confirmed to be a back and ankle injury.

“Really everything involved with how we approached the medical situation, still very confident in how we did that,” he said.

Later on, McDaniel elaborated, “Like I said before I’m very, very confident. The only reason I’m confident is because of everything I’ve been around since I’ve been here with regard to our medical staff and how they do their business.”

He also addressed the investigation the NFL and the NFLPA are conducting into the protocols Tagovailoa underwent following his injury against the Bills, “As far as the inquiry that’s going on from the league and from the PA, we are very happy to comply with all of those things. Would much rather be as transparent as possible. We are happy that all that’s taking place because we do not have anything to hide from that standpoint at all.”

McDaniel also confirmed that Tagovailoa’s MRI came back clean, “It did. It did. So that can be confirmed.”
