Damar Hamlin’s agent has confirmed that the Buffalo Bills safety is now breathing on his own and speaking after being kept alive through a breathing tube since Monday. This recovery in only a matter of days since he collapsed during Monday night’s game is nothing short of miraculous.

During the recent game with the Cincinnati Bengals, Hamlin suffered from a heart attack and needed to be resuscitated on the field before being rushed to the hospital where he was unconscious. On Friday, Hamlin was able to join his teammates during a team meeting through a video conference.

While Hamlin was only able to communicate briefly, mainly through hand gestures, he wrapped up his short appearance saying “I love you boys,” according to Bills coach Sean McDermott.

“I probably won’t be able to do it justice,” McDermott told reporters afterwards, “but just to see Damar, No. 1, through my own eyes, it was something I was hoping to see and kind of something I needed to see. And to see the players’ reaction, they stood up right away and started clapping for him and yelling some things.”

“He’s just an infectious young man with an infectious personality,” McDermott concluded.

In a statement released by the team’s representative Ira Turner to the Associated Press, they stated Hamlin’s “neurologic function remains intact and he has been able to talk to his family and care team.” This positive point in his recovery is even more miraculous when considering his heart actually stopped due to a regular tackle alone.
