Reports were dropping like bombs all weekend, as the ‘will-he-or-won’t-he’ saga regarding Aaron Rodgers continues.

However, it may be ending soon. The Green Bay (for now) quarterback appears to be near a decision on his address in 2023. So, it seems we will finally get the answer to a question that has been looming since the season ended.

After holding his cards close to his vest, it looks like #12 is finally ready to lay them down. And when he does, it will be as the new quarterback for the New York Jets. At least that’s what one of the most prominent members of the NFL media thinks is about to happen.

NFL Insider Trey Wingo was the first to report that a deal to send the future NFL Hall of Famer to The City That Never Sleeps was all but done and that a trade was imminent. Wingo also broke the story about the Jets meeting with Aaron Rodgers last week, and he tweeted that the deal is “done”.

However, there has been no official announcement as of yet by either franchise, Rodgers, or anyone representing the player. And conflicting reports by other NFL observers have left a bit of a cloud over the transaction.

After Wingo’s tweet, panelist Ian Rapoport said on NFL Network that a deal is “not done” and “nothing has happened,” dismissing the original report.

Fellow expert Adam Schefter has yet to verify the Rodgers deal, either, leading many to speculate that there may be a but of a hold up. Or, possibly there could be no deal at all.

However, Schefter did recently report that the New York Jets are pursuing WR Allen Lazard and specifically highlighted Lazard’s time with Rodgers writing on Twitter, “During their five seasons together in Green Bay, Allen Lazard caught 168 passes for 2,216 yards and 19 TDs from Aaron Rodgers.”

At the end of the day, it will be the Green Bay legend’s call, and he isn’t talking yet.

For fans of the Packers and Jets, who have been agonizing over what may or may not happen, it’s been a painful early offseason. With quarterback being the most important position on the field, neither team can plan for the future until they know for sure who the QB will be settling under center next year. It still looks more certain that he will be a Jet, but it’s not set in stone. At least not yet.

Perhaps, it’s best for football followers to stop listening to the media. Maybe they should just heed the advice of Aaron Rodgers, himself, who said recently about the whole process:

“Stay tuned. It won’t be long. There’s a time, and a time limit for all this.”
