Shaun Alexander, an electrifying former NFL running back who claimed the 2005 MVP title with the Seattle Seahawks, has announced a feat that dwarfs anything he ever accomplished in the sport of football.

Alexander announced that he and his wife, Valerie, are expecting their fourteenth child. Fourteen. That’s a penalty in the NFL for too many men on the field. That’s a baseball team and five bench players.

Yet, here we are.

Alexander, who is 48, announced the fantastic news on the “Up & Adams” show on Thursday.

“We’re just now starting to tell people,” the three-time Pro Bowler and all-time leading rusher in Seahawks history beamed, “but No. 14 is in the belly.”

Shaun Alexander set to welcome baby number 14

My goodness, when you hear so many stories in the NFL about players like Tyreek Hill or Antonio Cromartie, who have numerous children with numerous women, it’s nice to see a large family from a couple that has been married for 23 years.

God bless.

This latest addition will be joining an already vibrant clan that includes children named Heaven, Trinity, Eden, Joseph, Justus, Temple, Honor, Jedidiah, Eternity, Hosanna, Hope, and Judea. Each a testament to the couple’s enduring commitment to family.

And it comes with a reminder of the bittersweet memory of losing their daughter, Torah, in 2017, just 70 days after her birth.

With that, the host teased other known prolific football fathers, suggesting they should get their game face on and start playing catch-up to Alexander.

“I want you to look at this: Philip Rivers, get to work,” host Kay Adams said. “That’s what I want to say. Philip steals headlines with 10. You only have 10 children. Philip, get a grip. We should take his Hall of Fame away and give it to you.”

Hopes his kids see him in the HOF

A workhorse on the field, Philip Rivers is also a workhorse off of it. He has 10 children. Unlike many others in the sports world, they are all with one woman – his wife, Tiffany.

Tiffany was his high school sweetheart, and the two married in 2001. One more child and they’ll have their own football team. Shaun Alexander already has his.

Game on.

The Seattle Seahawks selected Alexander in the first round of the 2000 NFL Draft, quickly becoming one of the league’s premier running backs, amassing 9,453 career rushing yards and 100 rushing touchdowns primarily during his eight seasons with the team.

In his 2005 MVP season, Alexander led the NFL with 1,880 rushing yards and a then-record 27 rushing touchdowns (plus one receiving for 28 total scores), powering the Seahawks to a 13-3 record, their first NFC Championship, and a Super Bowl XL appearance.

All of that is to say – he has a Hall of Fame resume. And he’d like for his 14 kids to see him get that honor.

“You know, I want my kids to see the Hall of Fame,” Alexander said. “Am I asking too much?”

He is among the just-announced 128 modern-era nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
