Eddie Lacy, the former Alabama Crimson Tide standout and Green Bay Packers running back, has found himself in some serious off-the-field trouble.

Lacy was arrested Monday night in Scottsdale, Arizona for a DUI and possession of an open container in a vehicle. Yep, it’s the kind of news you hope not to hear about your favorite former NFL star.
Lacy, 34, was pulled over around 10:30 p.m. local time after police received reports of a potentially impaired driver. The Scottsdale Police Department initiated the traffic stop after noticing some traffic violations (always a red flag). Once officers got close, they reportedly spotted an open container of alcohol, which, let’s face it, is pretty much a guaranteed bust.
But here’s where it gets worse: Lacy wasn’t just a little over the legal limit. Nope, he was charged with “extreme DUI,” which, according to Arizona law, means having a blood alcohol level of .20 or higher. Yikes! For context, that’s more than double the legal limit. TMZ reported that he was released from jail early Tuesday morning, but it’s safe to say this won’t be going away any time soon.

Lacy’s Career Trajectory
While this is certainly a low point, it’s worth remembering the highs of Lacy’s career. Back in the day, Eddie Lacy was the guy. He helped Alabama win three BCS National Championships and had a stellar junior season in 2012, rushing for 1,322 yards and racking up 19 total touchdowns. Those numbers are pure magic.
And then, of course, Lacy brought that magic to the NFL when the Packers drafted him in 2013. In his rookie season, he put up an incredible 1,178 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, which earned him Offensive Rookie of the Year and a trip to the Pro Bowl. Packers fans will also fondly remember his 101-yard performance against the Cowboys in the playoffs that same year.
But like many NFL stories, Lacy’s meteoric rise came with a slow fall. After two fantastic seasons in Green Bay, injuries and declining production saw him rushing for just 758 yards in 2015 and missing most of 2016 due to an ankle injury. He did have a brief stint with the Seattle Seahawks in 2017, but unfortunately, it didn’t amount to much, and Lacy was out of the league after that season.

Fast forward to now, and it’s clear Lacy is going through some off-the-field struggles. He’s made over $7.5 million in his career, but no amount of cash can smooth over legal trouble like this.
Here’s hoping Eddie Lacy finds a way to turn things around after this unfortunate incident.
While we all love reminiscing about his on-field achievements, this latest chapter is a reminder that life after football can be challenging, even for the stars.
