The New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is admitting that he isn’t sure if he’ll be back with the team in 2025.

‘You Should Ask Woody’

During a press conference earlier this week, Rodgers, 41, discussed his most recent injuries and how they might affect the remainder of the season. He was also directly asked if he would return to the Jets after the team’s less-than-stellar 2024 season.

“Less-than-stellar” being a nice way of saying “most disappointing flop in a decade.”

“You should ask Woody,” he said, referring to the Jets owner Woody Johnson. This was met with a long silence from the room full of reporters.

This came after it was rumored that Johnson had asked Jets coaches to consider benching Rodgers after the New York team lost to the Denver Broncos by a score of 10-9 in all the way back in Week 4.

In this same press conference, Rodgers claimed that conversations were currently not happening about his place on the team. He went on to say that there were different managerial positions that needed to be filled first.

“I would be surprised if there was a conversation now because there’s so many uncertainties,” Rodgers continued. “There’s a G.M. that has to get hired I would assume first, and then he’s going to be part of hiring the head coach, so I have to be in the plans of multiple people, starting with the ownership and then the G.M., and then the head coach, so that’s why, to me, that would not be a conversation I’m expecting anytime soon until those things are in place.”

The Money Factor

Money is a huge factor in Rodgers’ future with the Jets as well. Indeed, he is set to earn a $35 million option bonus and a $2.5 million base salary in 2025 thanks to his renegotiated contract. None of this is guaranteed, however.

Rodgers took a $34 million pay cut last year to help out the Jets’ free-agent pursuits. He is under contract through 2025 with a no-trade clause. This means that the Jets would have to release Rodgers outright after the 2024 season if they want to part ways with him.

Rodgers Wants To Keep Playing For The Jets

Though he’s 41 years-old, Rodgers has previously indicated that he wants to spend many years playing for the Jets.

“I just redid my house here in Jersey,” Rodgers said earlier this month. “My goal was to play a few more years here. We’ll see I’d like to be healthy, I’d like to end on my feet. I’d like to play well and feel like I’m wanted back. If not, I will not be offended, I won’t be upset. I’ll be so thankful either way whatever happens here.”

Rodgers Doesn’t Want To Leave New York

This came after Rodgers shut down rumors that he is eager to leave New York.

“I haven’t told anybody in my life, ‘I want to play in 2025 and not in the Jets,'” Rodgers said last month.

“That’s 100 per cent false,” Rodgers claimed. “I actually said the opposite. I said that I’m going to wait and see what happens at the end of the season and if they want me back. I’ve really enjoyed my time in New York. Obviously, we haven’t had the success we’ve all wanted to have but I’ve made some great friendships in the team.

“I’ve enjoyed living in Jersey, I’ve enjoyed the time in the city, I’ve enjoyed getting to know the fans,” he continued. “And I came here to win here so I’m not jumping off ship like, ‘I definitely want to play and not in New York.’ I don’t know if I want to play yet, but New York would be my first option.”

Only time will tell what the future holds for Rodgers and the Jets!
