It’s no secret that Aaron Rodgers and his team the New York Jets didn’t have a stellar season. Indeed, they ended it with a lackluster 5-12 record after sky-high expecations and numerous off-season acquisitions. Now, an NFL insider is predicting that Rodgers will be returning.
Is Rodgers Retiring?
Rodgers, 41, ended the season with numbers that don’t tell the whole story of the Jets season: 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdown passes, and just 11 interceptions. In the wake of this, Rodgers has said that he will take some time before he decides for sure if he’ll return. If Rodgers does decide to keep playing for the Jets, the team’s next general manager will have to decide if he will be kept or not.
That doesn’t seem likely.
After speaking to an AFC executive, however, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler is predicting that Rodgers will soon be announcing his retirement.
“The New York Jets will soon hire a general manager who can make a splash with his first big decision: releasing Rodgers and starting fresh at the game’s most important position,” Fowler explained. “That leaves a 41-year-old, recently injured quarterback without a home.”
“To be sure, some from last season’s Jets staff believe Rodgers has something left and might just be eager to prove it,” Rodgers continued. “And he played relatively well over his final five games with 1,270 yards and nine touchdowns to three interceptions.”
AFC Executive Weighs In
Indeed, the AFC executive speaking on the condition of anonymity didn’t mince any words.
“But I’m just trying to think of a logical place for him to play and I can’t think of one,” the AFC executive said. “I’m guessing he doesn’t want to go to a rebuild. And if you’re a contender, I’m not sure they want to take on Aaron Rodgers and all that comes with that. So, he might just come to the conclusion that he’s done.”
This comes one month after Rodgers expressed his hopes of returning to play for the Jets next season.
“I just redid my house here in Jersey,” Rodgers said in December. “My goal was to play a few more years here. We’ll see I’d like to be healthy, I’d like to end on my feet. I’d like to play well and feel like I’m wanted back. If not, I will not be offended, I won’t be upset. I’ll be so thankful either way whatever happens here.”

Rodgers Has Loved Playing For The Jets
Rodgers began playing for the Jets in April of 2023. Earlier this month, Rodgers told ESPN that the two years he’s been with the team have been “the best two years of my life.”
Which seems like a stretch, but it’s certainly possible!
“I’m disappointed about the performance with myself and as a team, but really thankful for the opportunity,” Rodgers continued. “If I feel good coming back and they want to make another run at this, that’d be fantastic, but I’m not naive to the situation we’re in.”
Only time will tell if Rodgers retires or decides to give another NFL season ago. One thing is for sure, and that is that Jets fans everywhere will be eagerly awaiting his decision!
