You can describe Green Bay Packers legend Brett Favre in any of a million ways.

Let’s just say, “savvy social media user” is not among them.

At least, that’s the impression we get after Favre was taken to task by Randy Moss’s son Thaddeus for speaking out of school about his father’s illness.

What’s Up With Randy Moss?

For some quick background: Recently, “The Freak” announced he was stepping away from his duties on Sunday NFL Countdown. The reason given was a little mysterious, with Moss simply saying that he and his family were “battling something internally.”

He did this while putting on sunglasses, which has led to speculation about yellowing of the eyes and liver trouble.

Afterwards, Moss again addressed the situation, telling his fans directly that he needs prayer warriors and their prayers.

Watch:

The speculation about the liver trouble spread, and instead of verifying it, Favre instead blasted the “news” to the world on X, writing, “Just heard the news that Randy Moss has liver cancer. Prayers to him and his family.šŸ™Randy is and will always be one of the all time greats to ever run a route. Definitely on the NFL WR Mt. Rushmore.ā€

Bad move, Brett. After, Thaddeus Moss replied, ā€œBrett, the support is appreciated, truly. This is not true. My father will address the world when he is ready to.ā€

To his credit, Favre immediately changed his post to remove the reference to liver cancer, leaving the prayers and other sentiments:

Not everyone got such gentle treatment from Thaddeus Moss, though.

Larry Fitzgerald Sr. REALLY Steps In It

Larry Fitzgerald Sr., the father of the sure-fire Hall of Famer and longtime Arizona Cardinal Larry Fitzgerald Jr., also posted on X that Moss had liver cancer.

Jr. tried to ameliorate the situation by calling on his old man to wait for the Moss’s to make the announcement in their own good time.

Thaddeus, on the other hand, ripped him a good one. In a since-deleted tweet, he wrote to Fitzgerald Sr., “This is disgusting. ā€œYou have no right to try to make private matters public for the sake of engagement. I do not believe my father talks to you, so check your […] sources.ā€

It’s a good lesson for everybody. Take a beat before posting. Don’t immediately believe every single random post you see online. Check for other sources. Hell, reach out to your real-life friend first. Common sense stuff that newer users like Brett will have to learn.
