Cam Newton certainly made an impression during his debut episode on ESPN’s First Take. The former Carolina Panthers quarterback even dropped an epic joke at Shannon Sharpe’s expense.
Newton, along with Sharpe and Stephen A. Smith, were discussing top homecoming essentials for a college’s Homecoming football game.
“It’s the parties, Stephen A.! We ain’t worried about class. We ain’t worried about food!” Newton said.
Sharpe replied, “Yo. I’m worried about something else, but we can’t say that.”
And that’s when Cam dropped the mic.
“Watch out, Michelle!” he shouted, prompting chaos amongst the cast.
Cam Newton Torches Shannon Sharpe
For those who haven’t had the pleasure of hearing about Shannon Sharpe and ‘Michelle’, then best strap in for a moment or two.
Sharpe accidentally posted audio to his Instagram Live account that caught the Hall of Fame tight end having an intimate encounter.
The ESPN personality initially issued a denial that it was him. You know, the ol’ ‘I was hacked’ bit. But then he faced the music like a man.
“I threw my phone on the bed, engaged in an activity,” he explained of the accidental posting. “I did not know IG live. I’ve never turned IG live on so I don’t know how it works and all of sudden my other phone started going off.”
“After a thought, I was like, I just got — I just tell them the truth,” Sharpe said. “I said, ‘I just got to tell them the truth. My phone wasn’t hacked, uh, it wasn’t an —wasn’t a prank. It was me being a healthy, active male.”
As for ‘Michelle’ – At one point in the Instagram Live, a male voice seemed to say, “That’s my Michelle,” according to Larry Brown Sports.

Updates On The Incident
Following the video (or rather, audio) scandal, ESPN decided not to punish Shannon Sharpe over the incident. After all, it was just sound that aired.
The network must be completely okay with the incident at this point. Newton and company joking about it on air is comedy gold.
After he dropped the ‘Michelle’ reference, everybody can be heard yelling while a couple of the hosts try to restore order. The program then cuts to commercials.
ESPN signed Newton to work on First Take earlier this week.
If the rest of his appearances are anything like the debut, it should be a fun show to watch.
