Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh, who has been very open about his Christian faith, says it is “inspiring” to see so many NFL stars also being open about their religious beliefs.
Harbaugh, who recently said that he was “blessed” to attend the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, tells Fox News that he operates under three guiding principles: “faith, family, football.”
“Those priorities, I can keep things straight in my mind if I can make sure I’m keeping those three,” he said. “It’s just the best advice I’ve ever gotten, it comes from the Bible: ‘Seek first the kingdom of God, and all else will be added onto you.’”
“So, that’s the priority,” added Harbaugh. “That’s the gameplan, and nobody pays better interest than the Lord.”
Jim Harbaugh ‘Inspired’ By Players Celebrating Their Faith
Coach Jim Harbaugh is pretty stoked that today’s players are just as open about their faith as he is. It’s something we regularly try to chronicle here at Bounding Into Sports.
“It’s inspiring,” he admitted.
Harbaugh pointed to his punter, J.K. Scott, as an example of an athlete leading through faith in his own Chargers locker room.
“He’s our punter, and he’s one of the best punters in the game. But he’s also a brother in Christ, and he’s our team chaplain, if you will,” Harbaugh said.
“Gosh, nobody has it better than us at the Chargers to have him and others – strong Christians like that. It’s pretty awesome.”
Faith. Football. And above all else: Family.

League-Wide Faith
Remember when Tim Tebow, being open about his Christian faith, was sneered at? Now, such openness is on full display everywhere you look.
During a post-game press conference as a rookie, Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud offered praise for God and insisted the Almighty is “at the forefront” of his mind as he continues to achieve new heights in the league.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young has publicly expressed his faith multiple times. He has acknowledged his belief in God, particularly during adversity or when discussing his career and personal life.
Young went viral earlier this season when he offered a heartfelt prayer on the field for an injured opponent.

Harbaugh’s brother, Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, is another example.
The younger Harbaugh shared a Christmas season message after a big win last season, proclaiming the “good news that changes the world.”
