Aside from the ‘Malice at the Palace’ this might be the most Detroit thing ever. Lions head coach Dan Campbell reportedly had to sell his home because fans found out where he lived after the team’s excruciating loss in the NFC Championship game last season.

You heard that right. Lion fans, who hadn’t sniffed an NFC Championship game since 1991, ran their own head coach out of his home because they lost a heartbreaker to the San Francisco 49ers.

Yes, Campbell made some questionable coaching decisions during that game. But come on, he took the most famously losing franchise in the NFL from a three-win team two years ago and transformed it into a division winner competing for a chance to play in the Super Bowl.

Cut the man some slack.

“There’s plenty of space. It’s on two acres. The home is beautiful,” Campbell told Crain’s Detroit Business. “It’s just that people figured out where we lived when we lost.”

Dan Campbell Selling Home Over Safety Concerns

What would you want as a football fan out of your coach? The team’s on an upward trajectory and stumbled a bit in the championship game. So, you’d hope the coach would learn from those mistakes and come back stronger the following season, right?

No, instead the guy has to move his family to an undisclosed location. How is he supposed to concentrate on this season with that noise?

Campbell and his wife listed the 5-bedroom, 7-bathroom home built by former Detroit Red Wings center and Hockey Hall of Famer Igor Larionov at $4.5 million.

Within 24 hours, the status of the home was listed as “pending.”

The Campbells, who have two children, didn’t want to make this move.

“The couple ‘loved’ the house,” Crain’s reported, “but security concerns necessitated the move to somewhere more private.”

The Lions Downfall

Dan Campbell faced criticism for his decision-making during the NFC Championship game loss to the Niners. But he coached the way he had all season with a lot of success – aggressively.

Specifically, Campbell was questioned for opting to forgo two field goal opportunities in situations where taking the points could have significantly impacted the game’s outcome.

Critics argued that these decisions might have cost the Lions crucial points in what ended up being a close and pivotal game, ultimately leading to their loss and missing out on a Super Bowl appearance. The 49ers won 34-31.

It was the same aggressive style of play that got them to where they were though. So again, cut the guy some slack, Detroit fan.

Man, it didn’t take long to go from Lions fans crying tears of joy in the stands after their team finally ended a 32-year playoff drought to pitchforks and driving a man out of his home.
