Former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney was arrested last week in Georgia on some truly heinous charges.

Toney, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs, has been accused in police documents of strangling a woman in the course of a domestic dispute.

The allegations are pretty bad. Toney, according to the documents, put his hands around the victim’s neck and squeezed “with enough force to cause her to be unable to breathe.”

So forceful were his actions that the woman had red marks on her neck and “petechial hemorrhaging” in her eyes.

According to the report, Toney also took the woman’s cell phone and prevented her from calling 911 during the altercation.

Kadarius Toney Facing Charges

Kadairus Toney had a warrant issued for his arrest in mid-January and was placed behind bars last week. He was hit with one charge of aggravated assault – strangulation and one charge of obstructing/harassing 911 calls.

His bond was set at $25,000 for each count. Records do not indicate he is still in custody, implying that after making over $14 million during his NFL career, Toney posted the bond.

The assault charge is a felony in Georgia, and those convicted face anywhere between 1 to 20 years in prison. Some cases, depending on circumstances, require mandatory minimums of 3 years and 5 years.

Though the female victim has not been identified, Toney is reportedly dating entrepreneur Charnesia Lumpkin. The two have a baby girl together.

In a concerning twist, Toney can be seen in an Instagram video posted before his arrest in which the couple acknowledges Lumpkin’s baby bump.

Troubled Player

Throughout his career, Kadarius Toney has been such a mercurial player that the god Mercury is embarrassed by the label.

He was at the center of controversy when called for lining up offsides against the Buffalo Bills in a crucial game in 2023, negating a spectacular pass from Patrick Mahomes to Travis Kelce, which was then lateraled across the field to Toney for a 49-yard touchdown.

The Bills won the game. But not before Mahomes and company whined about the call, which is ironic considering the refs are considered an ally for the Chiefs. But Toney was clearly offside.

He made headlines during the 2023 playoffs when he claimed the Chiefs lied about his injury status. Kansas City later released him, and the Cleveland Browns picked him up in 2024.

In a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Toney had a muffed punt and a taunting penalty. The Browns then released him. How bad do you have to be to get released by the Browns?
