Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was arrested Friday on a charge of assault against a family or household member by impeding breathing or circulation. The incident occurred just weeks after scoring two touchdowns in Super Bowl LIX.
The story initially appeared to be an instance of another busy offseason for the Chiefs in the legal troubles department. The Chiefs said they were “aware and gathering information” regarding the incident.
That no longer seems necessary, as the District Attorney declined to press charges in the case. The decision was made after further investigation and witness discussions, with Worthy and his lawyers fully cooperating.
“After further investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and further discussion with a third-party witness, Mr. Worthy and his attorneys, this case is being declined at this time pending completion of the investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office,” a statement from the DA’s office reads.
Why Were Charges Against Xavier Worthy Dropped?
Xavier Worthy’s attorneys claimed the allegation was “baseless” and stemmed from a dispute with a woman who refused to leave his residence after she was caught cheating.
The details of those claims are wild. They involve alleged infidelity on the part of the woman, of which there reportedly is video evidence, and a refusal on her part to leave his home. Not to mention her allegedly violent behavior.
“The complainant was asked multiple times over the last two weeks to vacate Mr. Worthy’s residence upon discovery of her infidelity, which a private investigator has video evidence of,” a statement from Worthy’s attorneys reads. “She has refused to vacate the residence and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy.”
“The complainant further destroyed a room in the residence, scratched Mr. Worthy’s face and ripped out parts of his hair, which there is photographic evidence of.”
Besides that, she seems like the kind of woman you bring home to momma.

Case Still Being Evaluated
While shocking, it seems Xavier Worthy covered all of his bases here. Especially by chronicling troubles with the woman with video and photographic evidence.
The DA’s office indicated they would “continue to evaluate the case” and update their plans based on any new evidence that comes forward.
Worthy, a blistering-fast wide receiver out of the University of Texas, was a first-round pick of the Chiefs in 2024.
He showcased that speed during garbage time in a blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, hauling in 8 catches for 157 yards and two touchdowns.
While the woman in the alleged assault case has not been named, Worthy got engaged to Tia Jones this past July. Jones is an American track and field athlete.
