Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett strongly responded to a handful of fans who were heard cheering a likely season-ending injury to quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Watson suffered the injury while attempting a quarterback draw in the second quarter of a game against the Cincinnati Bengals. It was a brutal non-contact freak incident.
The fans who cheered the incident have been rightly criticized. Unfortunately, Watson is getting the strongest defense from people of questionable character.
As reported by Bounding Into Sports, Browns third-string quarterback Jameis Winston railed against fans for cheering Watson’s injury, insisting his teammate was a person “who (does) right by you.”
Now, Garrett is coming to his defense as well. And he’s using Watson’s supposed character in his comments.

Myles Garrett Defends Deshaun Watson
Garrett chastised Browns fans for voicing their displeasure with Deshaun Watson at an inopportune time.
“We should be ashamed of ourselves as Browns and as fans to boo anyone and their downfall,” Garrett said. “No one deserves that.”
“Man does pretty much everything right. He’s been a model citizen through college and also the pros,” he continued. “We can’t look down on the guy because of any mistakes on the field, or anything off the field. We don’t have any moral high ground to look down on the guy.”
Oh, I don’t know, Myles. Pretty sure anybody who hasn’t been accused of sexual assault and/or misconduct by over 20 women can, in fact, take the moral high ground.
Save for Bill Cosby or Harvey Weinstein, everybody can look down on Deshaun Watson.
Watson had two dozen lawsuits filed against him by women who accused him of inappropriate behavior. He was suspended in 2022 for 11 games by the NFL.
But yeah, he’s a model citizen. What a rube.

Not A Model Citizen
Myles Garrett has his own history of rash reactions on the field, so you’d think he could relate.
Garrett ripped Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph’s helmet off after a play had been completed during a game against Pittsburgh in November 2019, and swung it at his head.
I don’t know how many of you have ever held a real game helmet, but getting busted in the noggin with one of those would be little different than getting hit with a baseball bat.
Garrett claimed Rudolph had used a slur prior to the brawl.
Rudolph vehemently denied the accusation and was exonerated after the NFL investigated the incident and found no evidence to support Garrett’s accusation.
So when fans overreact to an incident during the game by thinking of the football implications rather than deeply considering the health of the player on the field, maybe cut them some slack.
Not everybody is as model a citizen as Watson.
