Philadelphia mayor Cherelle Parker was peppered with online ridicule after a video showed her attempting to spell the word ‘Eagles‘, only to crash and burn.

The mayor was offering an update on a snowstorm and freezing temperatures hitting the city when she failed a basic spelling test.

Parker’s excitement over seeing her beloved team appearing in the NFC Championship game prompted her to try to lead the Eagles’ chant at the press conference’s conclusion.

Suffice it to say, she won’t be appearing in one of those Scripps National Spelling Bees any time soon.

“Let me hear you all say, E-L-G-S-E-S, Eagles!” she shouted. “Let’s go, birds!”

Philadelphia Mayor Can’t Spell ‘Eagles’

I mean, this effort by the Philadelphia mayor to spell ‘Eagles’ is something special. That said, I’m willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. It was cold in the City of Brotherly Love.

Maybe the freezing temps caused her to trip over the letters. We’ve all been so cold before that our lips just don’t want to work.

Still, this would be like Fireman Ed at MetLife Stadium starting a ‘J-S-T-S Jsts! Jsts! Jsts!’ chant.

Fans roasted Parker on social media over the spelling flub.

“A is for ashamed,” one person wrote about the missing letter in the mayor’s spelling. “The feeling the city has for their mayor.”

Another joked, “I’d like to buy a vowel.”

“Second-grade spelling skills aren’t a requirement to be mayor of Philadelphia,” a football fan chimed in.

Next Up For The ‘Elgses’

I’m going to play devil’s advocate here. Could the Philadelphia mayor have been mockingly recreating a viral video from an Eagles fan last year who couldn’t spell the word ‘Eagles’?

It seems unlikely. But maybe, just maybe.

Anyway, the birds did ‘go’ on Sunday, as Parker had hoped. They took down the Los Angeles ‘R-M-M-S’, 28-22.

Running back Saquon Barkley was pivotal in the win, rushing for 205 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries, showcasing his dominance in the snowy conditions. Despite a strong performance from both teams, the Eagles’ defense made more crucial plays, including forcing turnovers late in the game.

Philadelphia now faces the Washington Commanders this weekend.

Let’s just hope nobody asks the mayor to spell their name.
