The broadcast crew for NBC’s Sunday Night Football production took a moment to offer Randy Moss some well wishes after the NFL legend recently disclosed his battle with cancer.
Cris Collinsworth initiated the conversation during the closing minutes of the game between the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks.
His colleague stepped in to recall how beloved Moss is in New England, where he formerly played with Tom Brady.
“You know Cris, I had a chance to be up in Foxborough six months ago when they honored Tom Brady,” Tirico said.
“And they filled the stadium. It was a great night. Randy Moss came out and before you could say a word, he got a standing ovation from the 200 ex-Patriots that were there and the entire Gilette Stadium.”
“Just an appreciation for that great season with Tom and what he meant to them and means to a lot of folks around the league. Does a great job with the ESPN crew on Sundays,” Tirico added. “So Randy, we are praying for you and thinking of you man.”

Tribute To Randy Moss
Collinsworth went on to highlight Randy Moss’s legendary status in the NFL and his impact as an analyst for rival sports network ESPN.
“Our friend, battling cancer as we speak. Just one of the greatest players in the history of our game,” he said. “When he came on the scene, that guy just exploded on the scene.”
“I’ve had a chance to work with him on a couple different things. You just love being around him. He kinda had a reputation as a player of being kinda rough or whatever. Not at all, just not at all,” Collinswoth concluded.
“Just thinking about you and praying for you.”
Moss played for the New England Patriots from 2007 to 2010, and his tenure there is often highlighted as one of the most impactful periods in his career. That magical season Tirico references was 2007 – his first with the club – when he set an NFL record with 23 touchdown receptions.
Moss helped the Patriots achieve a perfect 16-0 regular season that year, although they lost in Super Bowl XLII to the New York Giants in one of the greatest upsets of all time.

Battling Cancer
Randy Moss shocked the sports world when he announced his decision to step away from his role on Sunday NFL Countdown to focus on a personal health challenge.
Mossâs stunning announcement came after he was hit with viewer concerns about his appearance on the football broadcasts. The fears were specifically due to his eyes looking yellow during broadcasts.
He eventually shared that he has been battling cancer.
Moss disclosed that the cancer was found in his bile duct, specifically between his pancreas and liver. He had a procedure to place a stent in his liver on Thanksgiving and underwent a six-hour surgery known as a Whipple procedure to remove the cancer, after which he was hospitalized for six days.
Moss described himself as a “cancer survivor” and thanked his “prayer warriors,” family, doctors, and nurses for their support during this period. He mentioned that he would need to undergo chemotherapy and radiation as part of his treatment plan.
The entire NFL world is wishing for a speedy recovery.
