The Kansas City Chiefs getting the kid-gloves treatment from the refs has been a relentless storyline throughout the 2024 season, and it’s only been amplified during the playoffs.

Nowhere was that more evident than during the AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills. The Chiefs defeated the Bills 32-29 and will try to win their third straight Super Bowl when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday.

There were several suspect calls in the game, including the Chiefs being granted a catch despite receiver Xavier Worthy not having possession when he came down, and of course, the now infamous first down by Bills quarterback Josh Allen that was ruled short of the line.

While Allen’s non-first down first down was the main focus afterward, a Bills fan posted a video showing several controversial calls seemingly favoring the Chiefs. Many of them involved where the football was spotted after the Bills ran a play.

And football fans are taking notice.

Did The Refs Help The Chiefs On Other Calls Too?

Holy cow. Take a look at the first play in which Bills running back James Cook clearly rushes for 11 yards on first and 10. It’s not even a question. Even the chain gang starts moving down to the new line of scrimmage.

But for some reason, they have to walk it back when the football is spotted a good yard behind where Cook ended up. That’s a clear two-yard swing in the location of the ball.

It was the first quarter at the beginning of a drive that eventually resulted in a touchdown for the Bills, hence the lack of attention on the spot. But it’s still a rather egregious error.

The video even shows the play before Allen’s big fourth down quarterback sneak, where an argument could be made that the tight end may have gotten the necessary yardage on that play.

A few of these clips are debatable as to the spot. The Cook run and the Allen fourth down play are incontrovertible. And it’s got Bills fans in a tizzy all over again.

More Examples

There are further examples of what Bills fans contend is more evidence that the refs favored the Chiefs in the game. But you get the picture.

The NFL has a problem. The team they’ve been pushing as a dynasty has clearly been helped along this year by favorable officiating. It doesn’t help that fans already believe the league is pushing them due to the Taylor Swift money-making storyline.

Four-time Super Bowl champion Ron Gronkowski recently added fuel to the fire by agreeing that the Chiefs are the beneficiaries of “lenient” officiating in their games.

“It’s been shown throughout the regular season and extending into the playoffs,” Gronk said. “I just feel like there’s something, like, maybe give them an extra call or two. Don’t make it too obvious, but make it a little obvious.”

If you’re to believe the video above, they got more than an extra call or two in the AFC Championship.
