Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is facing a new civil lawsuit by his ex-girlfriend, Dacoda Jones, the mother of their two children, alleging repeated physical assaults.
The news has come back to haunt Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who wore t-shirts supporting his teammate last season. More on that in a bit.
The lawsuit, filed Monday in Dallas County District Court, accuses Rice of assaulting Jones multiple times from December 2023 through July 2025 at their shared homes in Victory Park, Texas (near Dallas), and Lee’s Summit, Missouri (a suburb of Kansas City).
According to the complaint, Rice allegedly grabbed, choked, strangled, pushed, threw, scratched, hit, and headbutted Jones, and struck her with inanimate objects on various occasions. Several of these alleged incidents occurred while she was pregnant.
“Additionally, he has engaged in other violent and abusive behaviors towards Ms. Jones, including throwing objects, destroying property, punching walls, and breaking furniture, as well as locking her out in the middle of the night,” the lawsuit reads.
“As a direct and proximate cause of Rashee Rice’s assaults on Dacoda Jones, she has endured numerous physical injuries and significant pain and suffering.”
I'm not saying Rashee Rice is an awful person.

I'm just saying that it seems like he is literally always facing allegations that, if true, would make him an awful person. https://t.co/mIadS4viGV
Travis Kelce Faces Backlash Over Past Support for Rashee Rice Amid New Allegations
Jones is seeking more than $1 million in damages for physical pain, mental anguish, medical care, and other factors. No criminal charges have been filed in this matter.
The Chiefs issued a statement indicating they are aware of the situation involving Rice based on previous comments she made on Instagram. Or, we should say, the latest situation.
“The club is aware of the allegations on social media and is in communication with the National Football League,” the Chiefs told Front Office Sports at the time. “We have no further comment at this time.”

Getting caught in the crossfire is Kelce, who famously wore a t-shirt in support of Rice during his league suspension last season. The shirt made a mockery of the numerous off-field issues the young wideout was already facing.
Rice was suspended for the first six games of the 2025 NFL season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. Kelce and wide receiver Tyquan Thornton were seen sporting t-shirts before their game against the Philadelphia Eagles, which read “Free 4.”
Rice’s jersey number is 4.

At some point, one might think the headaches associated with Rice will outweigh the benefits for the Chiefs. Perhaps the latest troubling allegations will do it. I mean, you really can find somebody else out there who ranks 60th in receptions and 68th in receiving yards who isn’t going to find themselves in trouble every three weeks. It’s not that hard.
His checkered past is extensive. Rice earlier this season was suspended for causing a car accident that left multiple people seriously injured, and could have killed them.
He was arrested over a high-speed car crash last year and was facing eight felony charges from the incident. He lost control of a rented Lamborghini while racing another sports car on a Dallas highway at speeds of up to 119 MPH.
The resulting error triggered a six-vehicle chain-reaction crash that injured seven people, after which he fled the scene on foot without checking on the victims.
Rice later pleaded guilty to two felony charges—collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury—resulting in a 30-day jail sentence, five years of deferred probation, over $115,000 in restitution, and a six-game suspension by the league.
Reports also claim that Rice was involved in a gun incident during his time at Southern Methodist University (SMU). He was alleged to have “fired multiple bullets into the empty car” of SMU basketball player Kendric Davis, according to Pro Football Talk.
Multiple social media users posted the image of Kelce wearing the t-shirt in response to the latest Rice allegations. Will Taylor Swift weigh in on this situation at some point? Will she have Kelce issue a statement?
