San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch provided an update on Ricky Pearsall after the rookie wide receiver was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery attempt over the weekend.

Pearsall was shot in the chest during the afternoon on Saturday, just days before the NFL season was set to begin. The shooting occurred when a 17-year-old suspect attempted to rob him at gunpoint, leading to a struggle over the firearm.

Initially described as being in serious but stable condition, the first-round pick out of Florida was treated at San Francisco General Hospital. He was released the following day. His injuries, while severe, were not life-threatening.

“Multiple people down there said this is about as good as outcome as you could have in this situation,” Lynch told reporters.

“Ricky takes a lot of pride in being available and continues to point out, ‘I promise you, I’m not injury prone.’ This is not being injury prone … He’s going to be a fantastic player … But first and foremost, we’re going to make sure that he’s all good and ready to go.”

Update On Ricky Pearsall After Shooting – When Will He Play?

Imagine being shot in the chest and your first concern is letting the team know you’re not “injury-prone”.

Due to his wounds, Pearsall was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list by the 49ers, meaning he will miss at least the first four games of the season.

When asked if Ricky Pearsall might play this season, Lynch provided the following update: “Oh yeah. He’s doing remarkably well.”

“It’s kinda uncharted territory. It’s not every day you deal with something like this.”

Lynch indicated the team is pleased with his progress and that the move to the injury list is designed to give Pearsall time to heal physically and emotionally.

“He’s going to need that time physically. He’s going to need that time emotionally, mentally, and we made that decision,” he continued. “When we drafted Ricky, we did it for the long term, and Ricky’s going to be a fantastic player here.”

His progress is moving rapidly, according to the 49ers GM.

“He’s doing so much better today than he was yesterday,” Lynch said. “Just really, really miraculous.”

Trying To Get Back On The Field

What an absolute warrior. Various reports and updates demonstrate exactly how determined Ricky Pearsall is to get on the field.

Just two days after being shot, according to KNBR radio analyst Tim Ryan, the San Francisco wideout was in the weight room.

The incident has drawn significant attention to issues of crime in San Francisco, with city officials and the NFL team expressing relief over Pearsall’s condition.

San Francisco Giants co-owner Buster Posey stated that his team may have lost out on the Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes to the Los Angeles Dodgers last year due to crime in the city.

“There’s been a bit of uneasiness with the city itself as far as the state of the city with crime and drugs,” Posey told the Atlantic.

Now, the city almost lost a very important player permanently.
