Herman Hill, the father of Miami Dolphins all-pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill, had a message for police after his son was handcuffed while being pulled over for seemingly minor traffic infractions.
Mr. Hill attended Thursday night’s game between the Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills. He could be seen on the sidelines wearing a t-shirt with a simple two-word message in support of his son.
“Free Cheetah,” it said, referencing Hill’s nickname.
In an even more hilarious move, the shirt also has a picture of Hill celebrating a touchdown after the police incident by pretending to have a teammate handcuff him.
That is some next-level trolling right there, my man.
Tyreek Hill’s Father Trolls The Police
Tyreek Hill’s father making light of the incident is pretty funny. And quite frankly, it’s no different than fans who started showing up at this year’s PGA Championship with t-shirts featuring Scottie Scheffler’s mugshot.
The golfer though, actually did have to be freed. He went to jail. Hill was temporarily detained but never arrested.
Like the Scheffler case, much of what happened to Hill seems to have been blown out of proportion on both sides.
The Dolphin wideout, contrary to Herman Hill’s t-shirt, was set free. Rather quickly in fact.
The president of the South Florida Police Benevolent Association issued a statement defending police action by noting Hill was only “briefly detained” out of concerns for officer safety when the suspect became “uncooperative”
Failed To Cooperate
Tyreek Hill has since admitted his behavior could have been better and also, despite previous claims to the media, acknowledged that he did not fully cooperate with police.
Still, he wants the officer involved in the altercation fired.
“He gotta go man,” he told reporters. “Not too many times ‘Cheetah’ say people gotta go, but you … out. Gone!”
It’s odd hearing somebody who has been given several shots at redemption in the NFL say that a police officer doesn’t deserve an opportunity to explain his actions or get a second chance.
The Dolphins star escalated the ongoing back-and-forth with officers by alleging he was pinched as a means to provoke a reaction during his detainment.
The Miami-Dade Police Department is conducting an internal investigation into Tyreek Hill’s detainment. One of the officers involved in the arrest was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome.
After the smoke cleared, Hill was cited for a seat belt violation and speeding at a “visually” estimated 20 MPH or so above the posted limit.
Despite a spectacular opening weekend within hours of his detainment, Hill was a relative non-factor (3 catches, 24 yards) on Thursday as his Dolphins dropped the game to the Bills, 31-10.
