Will Ferrell showed up to a Kings-Flyers game on Sunday, giving the fans in attendance a special treat. Ferrell was seen in the crowd dressed as Buddy the Elf from the holiday classic, Elf.
Except, there was something off about Buddy.
Normally an exuberant, naive, and overly cheerful character who spreads joy and holiday exuberance with his childlike wonder and boundless energy, this version looked a little more like the dude Chazz Michael Michaels from Blades of Glory when he’s working the local ice show.
Buddy, you see, had a cigarette hanging out of his mouth and a beer in his hand. Not to mention, there was a scowl on his face befitting anybody forced to watch hockey in a city like Los Angeles.

Buddy The Elf Has Fallen On Hard Times
It’s certainly upsetting – or hilarious, depending on your viewpoint – seeing Buddy the Elf having fallen on hard times. I’m not sure what’s to be upset about, though.
The Kings won the game in an epic rally, 5-4, after being down 4-2 late in the second period.
And, Los Angeles has had a pretty impressive start to the season, sporting a record of 21-10-5, trailing only the Vegas Golden Knights in the Pacific Division.
Maybe it’s Ferrell himself. Been a tough couple of months for celebrities in Hollywood, what with the election and Diddy and so forth.
Ferrell famously endorsed and cut a promo for Kamala Harris. Better luck next time, Buddy!

Fans Thought It Was Funny
Fans definitely thought Ferrell’s Buddy the Elf shtick at the hockey game was pretty funny. And they had some jokes of their own.
“I think Buddy the Elf has been hanging around a little too much with Bad Santa,” one person on TikTok joked.
Another wrote on X, “A Buddy the Elf sequel where he lost his Christmas spirit and has to get it back is a movie I would watch.”
“‘Bad Buddies’ is the crossover Christmas movie we need,” another suggested.
Despite his appearance as Buddy the Elf at the Kings-Flyers game, a sequel to the movie Elf does not appear to be in the works.
Ferrell has publicly stated multiple times that he would not return for a sequel. He turned down a $29 million offer, citing issues with the script and his personal reluctance to reprise the role, especially as he gets older, believing it would not be true to the character’s essence.
Money talks though, and if somebody comes along with enough cash and a reasonable script, it’d be hard to believe he’d continue to turn down the opportunity.
