Molly Qerim, the host of ESPN’s popular debate show First Take, announced on Monday that she will be leaving the program and the network at the end of the year.
In an emotional post on Instagram, Qerim reflected on her tenure with the network as one of the greatest honors of her career. She also expressed gratitude for the brilliant colleagues, entertaining discussions, and loyal fans who made the experience memorable.
“After much reflection, I’ve decided it’s time to close this incredible chapter and step away from First Take,” she said in the shocking post.
“Hosting this show has been one of the greatest honors of my career,” added Qerim. “Every morning, I had the privilege of sharing the desk with some of the most brilliant, passionate, and entertaining voices in sports — and with all of you, the best fans in the world.”
She has been with ESPN since 2006, initially joining the digital and mobile team before becoming the permanent host of First Take in 2015. She started as a fill-in host.
Molly Qerim rejected a contract Offer?
While there have been no specific reasons for her departure, Sports Business Journal reports that Qerim was offered a new contract by ESPN, meaning she is rejecting an offer to stay.
Burke Magnus, ESPN President of Content, issued a statement to the outlet regarding one of their more popular hosts opting to leave the network.
“Molly has been an integral part of ESPN since 2006 and a key driver of First Take’s success since joining as host a decade ago,” the statement reads. “She elevated the show with her poise, skill and professionalism, while supporting others as a kind and encouraging teammate.”
“We respect Molly’s decision, wish her the best in the future, and thank her for her extraordinary daily commitment to sports fans and ESPN.”
Prior to her body of work at ESPN, Molly Qerim worked at NFL Network and CBS Sports Network.

What’s next for Molly?
Qerim teased future plans with a “Stay tuned” message at the end of her Instagram story post, but her next move remains unclear. The date of her final show has yet to be announced.

Qerim, a native of Connecticut and a University of Connecticut graduate, is hosting a conversation with men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley on October 1st to promote his new book.
Qerim won an Emmy Award in 2008 for her contributions as the breaking news reporter on ESPN2’s Fantasy Football Now. The Emmy win underscored her versatility and talent, paving the way for her return to ESPN as host of First Take.
