ESPN superstar and outspoken commentator Stephen A. Smith has ignited even more speculation about a potential run for president, telling TMZ Sports in a candid interview that he’s very much open to the idea.
Smith, whose presidential ambitions ebb and flow much like his knowledge of sports, declared that “the country sucks” due to a profound lack of effective leadership. No, the only thing that sucks is the party he’d be running in.
Still, he seems more interested in the process rather than governing.
He criticized current politicians for dividing the nation and failing to step up for the American people, emphasizing that his real draw isn’t traditional power but the chance to dominate the debate stage. To expose what he sees as their damaging failures.
“I think the country is devoid of leadership; the kind of leadership we have, we don’t need. The kind of leadership we should be getting, nobody is stepping up and doing,” he told the gossip outfit. “I don’t desire to be a politician, but in the same breath, the opportunity to go on a debate stage and call out these politicians for the things that they’ve done to damage this country is something that very much appeals to me.”
Stephen A. Smith Presidential Run: Why Money Is the Only Roadblock
I mean, bruh, you gotta do more as President than win the debates.
Smith proceeded to explain the one factor that might keep him from running for President—a lack of money.
“My money has to be tight,” the man who just signed a 5-year, $100 million deal with ESPN last year said.
“My quality of life needs to be straight, you know? From my understanding, that can’t happen because I’d have to give it up in order to run.”

Make up your mind, guy. Smith recently told CBS Sunday Morning in an interview that he’s giving “strong consideration” to joining the Democratic debate stage in 2027.
“I will confess to you, I’m giving strong consideration to being on that debate stage for 2027,” Smith said. “I’ve got this year coming up to think about it, to study, to know the issues.”
He seems to be mostly infatuated with the debates. What, is he going to win those, become the front-runner, and then simply drop out? Well, why not? Joe Biden disappeared last year, and the Democrats very undemocratically installed Kamala as their candidate.
Even Stephen A., who, as a sports analyst, thinks you can try a field goal on third down and get a do-over if you miss, would be an upgrade over that mess.
