Viral Golfer and social media sensation Paige Spiranac has our back guys, and the movement to let pro golfers wear shorts like us regular joes might finally be upon us.

During the weekend’s St. Jude Championship, soaring temperatures at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, challenged golfers’ ability to keep cool.

Lucas Glover, who clinched the tournament, along with Jordan Spieth, Jon Rahm, and Rory McIlroy, grappled with the heat. Glover quipped on Saturday he hadn’t “been this wet in the shower,” and Spieth ridiculed the ancient requirement that mandated players wear pants on the course. According to Golf Monthly, Harris English’s caddie, Eric Larson, even needed medical care for heat stroke.

So let’s ask the question— why are we, in the year of our Lord 2023, not questioning enough why these men have to show us how much they can sweat it out and endure the dreaded swamp crotch while also showing us how good they can swing a club? Well, it’s taken a lady to make the men in charge hopefully see reason.

“The men on the PGA Tour should absolutely be able to wear shorts, and the rule needs to change right now,” Spiranac said in a short video posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Monday. “Lucas Glover won for the second week in a row in a hot and humid Memphis. He also won for the worst documented case of swamp a– that we have ever seen.

“The guys were absolutely dying. They were sticking their hands in the ice coolers to bring their body temperature down. It is 2023, get it together, give the guys an option to wear shorts.”

Countering critics of the idea based on “tradition,” Spiranac remarked, “You’re saying that in the air conditioning, on your nice, cool couch drinking an ice-cold beer. Of course, you don’t mind, “But these guys are athletes playing in extreme conditions – let them wear shorts.”

Spieth, speaking to Golf Monthly, voiced he’d choose shorts if allowed, but doubted its overall benefit.

“My shirt made me weigh five more pounds,” he said. “If they gave us the option, I would have worn shorts, but I don’t think it would have made that much of a difference. You’d have just seen the sweat dripping down my legs instead of having dark pants on.”

Do you support allowing PGA Tour golfers the choice to wear shorts during games? If not, let us know your horrible reason why in the comments below and across social media.
