Controversial former USWNT star Megan Rapinoe recently shared her thoughts on the WNBA Rookie of the Year debate. So, is it Caitlin Clark or Angel Reese?

Rapinoe, in a panel discussion with four-time WNBA champions Sue Bird, seemed to rely on statistics that show Clark dominating Reese in nearly every category, with the exception of rebounding.

“I have Caitlin,” she said. “She’s leading in all the categories. Assists, turnovers, points.”

The crowd laughs at this point. Perhaps focusing on the weird jab over turnovers. Why did Rapinoe add that in? Who knows.

“Do not roast her come on,” replied Rapinoe. “Don’t roast her, she’s fine.”

Megan Rapinoe Supports Caitlin Clark For ROY, But Praises Angel Reese

While she’s clearly casting with Caitlin Clark in the Rookie of the Year debate, Megan Rapinoe was sure to offer praise for Chicago Sky star Angel Reese as well.

“Angel is having an amazing season,” she said. “Obviously, breaking the double-doubles.”

Rapinoe is referencing the record Reese ran through of consecutive games for a rookie scoring a double-double, which ended at an incredible 15 games.

The last time we saw these two players was at the WNBA All-Star game where Reese became the first rookie to record a double-double in the game, and her Indiana Fever rival set a rookie All-Star game record with 10 assists.

Sue Bird Goes With Clark As Well

This isn’t the first time Megan Rapinoe has given Caitlin Clark her flowers. Last month, the soccer star was practically gushing over the idea of going to a game to see the Fever sensation.

“You gotta capture the moment also, and my God, she has,” Rapinoe said, according to CBS Sports. “I can’t wait. I’m going to the game when they play in Seattle and will be back here for the one in New York. I’m just as big a fan as anyone.”

Bird, meanwhile, also agreed with Rapinoe’s assessment – but for slightly different reasons.

“For Rookie of the Year, I don’t really do the stat comparison. Yeah, it can help inform things when it’s tight for sure. I don’t do the [team] record. I just do the eye test,” Bird said.

“And to me, she [Clark] is rookie of the year.”
