WNBA star rookie Angel Reese is set to return to the court with the rest of the league following the hiatus during the 2028 Summer Olympics.
Reese was in the midst of an historic rookie season for the Chicago Sky before the break. She’s also been involved in some drama with fellow star rookie Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever.
Neither one participated in the Olympic Games as the women’s national team won gold in Paris against France. This does not mean that they aren’t the future of the women’s game.
ESPN’s Michael Voepel focused recently on what the 2028 iteration of the women’s roster might look like when the Summer Games head to Los Angeles. Obviously, both Reese and Clark were heavily involved in the speculation.
“Will current WNBA rookie standouts Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever and Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky be on Team USA then? Clark’s Fever teammate Aliyah Boston? What about college standouts such as USC’s JuJu Watkins, UConn’s Paige Bueckers or Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo, among others?”
Reese was not having any of it on social media. Instead, she wants the focus to be on the 2024 Team USA roster winning gold.
“Let’s just congratulate these women & let them enjoy this moment! Leave me out of this until my time comes,” Angel Reese wrote on X.

Yes, 2028 Summer Olympics Will Likely Include Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark

If the two “rivals” continue at their current trajectory, they will undoubtedly be included in the 2028 Summer Olympic roster.
It was a whole ado leading up to this year’s Olympics in France. Some believed that Clark earned a spot on the roster. Others thought that she had not yet earned it due to her status as a rookie.
As for Reese, there was not much talk about her making the roster. Team USA was big heavy in this one, including likely WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson.
As for what we’ve seen from Reese this season, she’s been sensational. The 22-year-old forward is averaging 13.5 points and 11.9 rebounds on the campaign.
