Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson put NBA All-Star Jalen Brunson on blast after he said he liked the idea of the WNBA lowering the rims.
This topic has been explored in the past. Lowering the rims, in theory, for those who support the idea, would allow more players to dunk and, by extension, liven up the game.
Brunson agreed with the premise during the latest episode of the “Roommates Show” with him and Josh Hart. As The Spun reports, things immediately got awkward.
“What’s it gonna do?” said the three-time WNBA MVP. “Honestly, if you guys like it, what’s it really gonna do for us?”
Brunson sheepishly admitted, “It wouldn’t do that much.”
A’Ja Wilson Continues Wrapping Brunson About The Head Over His WNBA Rims Take
The two-time WNBA champion wasn’t done with Brunson just yet, as she continued to address the notion that the WNBA should lower the rims.
Wilson points out that lowering them alters the shot. Angles and arcs. And then what?
“Okay, then that that would be my offseason (training),” she said. “I would much rather gear my offseason to, like, VertiMax, let’s focus on this jumping.”
“Versus lowering it, like, an inch? That could change all of our shots. Do you not understand that?”
Brunson likely did not understand that. Try shooting on a Fisher Price hoop. Then tell me it doesn’t exactly translate for good shooters.
Watching the hosts backpedal or stunned into silence by A’ja Wilson was a thing of beauty.

Shaq Agrees
To be fair to Brunson, he isn’t the first person to have surmised that lowering the rims might make WNBA games more exciting.
Hall of Fame center Shaquille O’Neal believes lowering the rims will make the WNBA more watchable and thus, make the players more money.
“The Diesel” told Chicago Sky star Angel Reese he believes dunking is “the only thing missing [in the women’s game].”
“A pretty girl dunking on the rim, I would watch that all day,” O’Neal said, promoting laughter from Reese.
Like Wilson, however, Reese wasn’t down with the idea, shaking her head at Shaq and adding, “I hate when men say that.”
