WNBA star Angel Reese tangled with a random guy on X with just over 250 followers after he pointed out her field goal percentage on layups this past season was abysmal.
On Tuesday, Reese initially responded to a post from December 2023 asking if she was first-round draft pick material. The majority of the respondents at the time said “no,” prompting the Chicago Sky forward to take a swipe at them, considering the success of her rookie season.
That’s when a guy named Adam stepped in, providing a harsh but factual dose of reality.
“U realize u can’t make a layup on the first try most times, right?” he asked.
Angel fired back and fired back hard.
“Do you realize I got drafted 7th in my class while ‘missing layups’ as a ROOKIE shooting 39% on the year & was STILL a all star and that was the worst you’ll ever see me???” she asked. “Or you just laid up with your dog at home hating Adam??”

Angel Reese’s Arch-Nemesis: Layups
Now, it’s not as if Adam said anything wrong here. In fact, Angel Reese responds by strangely citing her incredibly low field goal percentage, which, for a player who takes short-range shots a vast majority of the time, is really, really bad.
Her two-point field goal percentage (39.1%) this past season was well below the league average. To the point where fans accused Reese of padding her rebounding stats by missing easy shots, on purpose or otherwise.
In August, when she was actually shooting a lot better than the 39%, graphics posted to X still showed just how bad things were.
Angel Reese is shooting 43.8% within 5 feet of the basket.

By FAR the worst percentage in the WNBA. pic.twitter.com/ts5QB2gX3b
Her offensive game was so dreadful that Barstool Sports owner and founder Dave Portnoy was moved to call her “a poor man’s Dennis Rodman.”
The only difference is Rodman wasn’t, to my knowledge, accused of intentionally missing layups just so he could grab more boards. He rarely even bothered to shoot.
Adam Is A Hero
Adam, whom Angel Reese taunted because he correctly pointed out she can’t make layups, was undeterred. He explained why her rebounding stats are artificially inflated and had a funny counter about his dog.
“You got drafted high for a reason but u still brick tons of layups lol,” he replied. “Your FG % is inflated because u put up a ton of put-backs, but I hope to see you progress as a player & succeed.”
“Also coming at my dog is weird, he doesn’t play basketball.”

A legend in the making.
Still, Reese posted impressive stats throughout her rookie campaign, impressing fans and players alike with her consistent double-double box score stats and gaudy rebounding numbers.
The Sky forward finished her season averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds. The latter stat led the league.
