Chicago Sky star Angel Reese tore into the WNBA for not paying players enough and ssaid the league salary wasn’t enough to cover her rent. Which she also admitted is $8,000 per month.

Reese was spotted at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show alongside other celebrities such as singer and actress Coco Jones. There, she did a live Instagram segment discussing her finances.

“Hating pays my bills, baby. I just hope you know the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all. I don’t even think that pays one of my bills,” Reese said.

“Literally, I’m trying to think of my rent for where I stay at. I’m gonna do the math real quick. I don’t even know my salary.”

Sports Illustrated reports that Reese’s base salary for this season was $73,439. Which is slightly less than Caitlin Clark and the top four picks in the WNBA draft earned. Here is their breakdown:

  • 2024: $76,535
  • 2025: $78,066
  • 2026: $85,873
  • 2027*: $97,582 (team option)

That is, in a word, pretty brutal for someone at the height of their industry, as Reese is.

Angel Reese Can’t Pay Rent With Her WNBA Salary

While the salary of WNBA players is on the low side, let’s face it – nobody was really watching games and thus bringing in revenue prior to the arrival of Caitlin Clark – and Angel Reese.

Surely those numbers are going to change with the massive uptick in ticket sales and ratings.

But listening to Reese complain about her salary knowing that she’s making millions in endorsement deals while families are struggling is absurdly out of touch. Not to mention complaining about her rent. Which is also absurdly out of touch.

“Yo, I’m living beyond my means!” Reese laughs. “No, my rent is more than that. It’s $8,000. I’m living beyond my means.”

If that’s the case … move?

Reese’s Lucrative Endorsements

This isn’t the first time Angel Reese has complained about the WNBA and their salary structure. Some fans earlier this season weren’t thrilled with her skipping out on All-Star festivities instead of accepting it as an honor.

“Angel just pissed me off. Your first all-star event as a rookie and you still in Vegas at a summer league game?” one person said.

Reese replied, “It’s ok babe. I’m minding the business that PAYS me.”

While odd and a reach, her quip seemed to be a reference to the NBA subsidizing the WNBA.

None of this takes into account her many, quite lucrative endorsement deals either. Angel Reese has been making numerous business moves to enhance her income around the WNBA salary.

Last month she launched a new podcast called “Unapologetically Angel,” and dropped news about a huge endorsement deal with Reese’s Pieces.

Her website launched a series of extraordinarily overpriced apparel items in collaboration with the candy company.

That follows a partnership with Reebok which includes the launch of the “Reebok by Angel” collection, and the expectation of her own signature shoe line in the future.

She even hinted at a possible movie role in the near future.

In short, Reese is making bank. She isn’t struggling to pay her $8,000/month rent. But the fact that she’s worried about supplementing her salary through outside endeavors and is openly criticizing the league doesn’t bode well for her future there.

How long should somebody work at a place that undervalues them?
