Having secured a playoff spot and locked in their position, the Indiana Fever didn’t need their rookie sensation Caitlin Clark to deliver her usual workload.

She still set some new records anyway, because that’s seemingly all she does.

Twenty minutes. Left the game with just over 5 minutes remaining in the third quarter. Just enough to keep the flow of her game going in preparation for that first playoff matchup for the franchise in eight years.

Even so, Clark managed to drop 8 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds against the Washington Mystics.

While it doesn’t sound like much, she still managed to break one record and solidify her position on another in the process. Which is par for the course when it comes to the greatest rookie point guard in WNBA history. (Eat your heart out Sheryl Swoopes).

Greatest PG in history and the stats to back it up. Just last week, she broke the WNBA single-season record for assists. Last night, her scoring total went to 769 points on the season. Meaning she now has the most points by a point guard in league history. That’s not just for a rookie.

Caitlin Clark Breaks Diana Taurasi’s Record

With all of that, Caitlin Clark set a new record last night that might just be my favorite story from her final game of the regular season.

The Fever kept Clark in long enough to make 2 out of her 3 three-point attempts. And while 2 three-pointers might not seem all that significant, it was just enough to knock Phoenix Mercury legend Diana Taurasi off the top perch for one of her records.

The rook now is in sole possession of most three-pointers by a point guard in WNBA history. Clark finished the season with 122 long-range bombs. Taurasi had 121 in the 2006 season.

The all-time record for three-pointers by any player is 128 by Sabrina Ionescu just last season. Clark has many seasons left in this league to give that overall record a run.

Taurasi Said She’d Be In For A Rude Awakening

All in all, a pretty impressive record-breaking season for Caitlin Clark and her Indiana Fever. Having delivered the greatest season by any point guard in WNBA history, it almost seems like she was pretty “dominant.”

To break a record by Taurasi in your final game as a rookie? Ah … *chef’s kiss*.

Seems like only yesterday that Taurasi was delivering a warning to Clark that she might not be able to hack it in the league.

“Reality is coming,” she warned.

“There’s levels to this thing. And that’s just life, we all went through it. You see it on the NBA side, and you’re going to see it on this side,” added Taurasi before the season started. “You look superhuman playing against 18-year-olds, but you’re going to come with some grown women that have been playing professional basketball for a long time.”

News flash – Caitlin Clark still looks superhuman, whether she’s breaking records against 25-year-olds or 42-year-olds.
