The Indiana Fever were in a celebratory mood Monday, as their social media account posted a statistical argument that guard Caitlin Clark is the best rookie in WNBA history.

We know Clark has been breaking records left and right this season, but as the Fever reminds us, when it comes to a trio of all-time stats she’s “top 2, and she ain’t 2.”

Which is a clever way of saying she’s just number one. In some well-rounded, team-oriented statistical categories we might add.

Number one in points all-time for a rookie. Check. Assists? Yep.

And of course, her signature – the three-pointer.

The Indiana Fever Have Caught Caitlin Fever

You’ll have to forgive the Fever and their fans if they seem a little giddy. It’s just that they haven’t really experienced this level of winning in some time.

Indiana is 9-4 since WNBA players returned from the Summer Olympics in Paris. In fact, the 20 wins by the team so far this season are the highest since they had an equal number of victories during the 2015 season.

They will finish at or above .500 in the standings and have locked down the 6th seed in the playoffs, a part of the season they haven’t participated in for some time.

And there’s one main catalyst for this turnaround – Caitlin Clark.

Clark has solidified her stranglehold on Rookie of the Year honors since returning from the break, an honor once thought to be a two-horse race between her and Chicago Sky forward Angel Resse. And that was before Reese went down with an unfortunate injury.

In her last 5 contests, ‘Ponytail Pete’ has averaged 24.0 points and 8.6 assists which would put her up there with just about anybody in the league.

Not Bad, Caitlin Clark – Not Bad At All

All of these accomplishments are pretty impressive, especially when there were significant naysayers including legendary UConn women’s basketball head coach Geno Auriemma.

Auriemma blasted Clark fans as “delusional” for expectations that Caitlin Clark would come into the league and make an immediate impact.

Spoiler alert: She’s made an immediate impact. In fact, that impact has actually exceeded her “delusional” fans expectations.

As the Fever social media post points out, she’s the greatest rookie of all time according to their stats. Clark is not number 2, she’s number 1.

On the court and in our hearts.
