The Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White is speaking out to give her thoughts on star player Caitlin Clark’s massive fame.

Which, as we’ve chronicled on these pages, is nothing short of unprecedented.

Despite what some may say, White isn’t concerned about Clark’s notoriety interfering with her game.

Clark Praised By White

While being interviewed by The Athletic, White praised Clark, 23, for how she’s handled being the most famous player in the WNBA – and frankly, maybe the country. She even went so far as to compare Clark to the pop star Taylor Swift.

“I think first and foremost, she does an outstanding job of managing it all. Like, she’s incredibly humble,” White said of Clark. “She understands the big picture. So she views it understanding her celebrity, No. 1. But No. 2, she’s a Midwest kid, a Midwest person and she is who she is. She tries to live her life in an authentic way. But she’s very much Taylor Swift 2.0.”

“So I think from my perspective, and from our staff and franchise, it’s how do we help her navigate all of this? How do we help her protect her peace? Because it can be a lot,” the Fever coach continued. “How can we be a resource for her? It’s a different level now with social media and fan engagement. We want to be a resource and help protect her.”

Clark Loves Swift

Clark will undoubtedly love being compared to Swift. Last year, Clark attended multiple concerts on Swift’s Eras Tour. Then, last month, Clark and Swift, 35, watched the Chiefs-Texans playoff game together in a private box at Arrowhead Stadium. They could be seen talking to each other and even hugging at one point during the game.

White only had more words of praise for Clark. Indeed, she’s impressed that all of this fame has not gone to her head.

“She’s an incredible kid. I call her a kid, but she’s obviously a young woman,” White gushed. “An incredible talent. She’s an incredible human being. She works her tail off. There’s a reason she is who she is in terms of a player. She’s handled all of this with such grace and poise that most 23-year-olds wouldn’t be able to.”

White Wants To Help Clark ‘Continue To Grow’

Moving forward, White is focused on ensuring that Clark will continue to grow as a player on the court.

“From a coaching perspective, keep the main thing the main thing,” White explained. “Help her protect her peace and then help her continue to grow on the basketball court. We let our players know sometimes you gotta minimize the noise around you and focus on what our job is. Our job is to put the best team and the best product on the floor that we’re capable of doing.”

Clark was the No. 1 overall pick by Indiana in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She went on to have an incredible season that culminated in her being names as a WNBA All-Star and the Rookie of the Year.

Clark has arguably brought more eyeballs to women’s basketball than any other WNBA player in history. As Clark’s star continues to rise, it will certainly be interesting to see where her career takes her from here!
