Caitlin Clark is the WNBA’s biggest star without question. And frankly, she might be the biggest sports star period, if you look at the extent of her impact on her sport.
After seeing a three point contest between the original modern king of the logo shot Steph Curry and Sabrina Ionescu last year, it was natural to think Clark would be next up. After all, we just watched her nail 50 of 54 on her birthday.
Unfortunately, she is not interested. The idea would’ve been a three point contest involving Clark and Ionescu against Steph and his former teammate, Klay Thompson. Alas, it is not to be. Clark had been “disinclined” to participate because she does not want to shoot threes off a ball rack, which is the normal format for NBA all star weekend.
Clark is one who thrives off of catch-and-shoot threes.
Although this news is disappointing to fans of the NBA, it could be possible she changes her mind. As one source close to Clark explained: “I wouldn’t say it’s over until the thing happens. A lot of this stuff comes together very, very late.”
What’s Next
Clark deserves to enjoy her off-season however she sees fit. She was recently at the AFC Divisional Round game between the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs. The reigning WNBA rookie of the year will shortly shift her focus to preparing for a new WNBA season, which begins in May.
As far as a crossover between other WNBA and NBA players participating in a three point contest during all star weekend, it appears to be a dead end for now. Perhaps something could take place during the WNBA all star game in the summer, but we shall see. The NBA’s all star weekend festivities take place from February 14-16.
