A 55 year-old man from Texas has been arrested for allegedly stalking the Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark.

Clark’s Alleged Stalker Arrested

Michael Lewis of Denton, Texas was arrested on Sunday at a hotel in Indianapolis and charged with a Level 5 felony. If convicted, Lewis is facing up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Lewis’ arrest stems from messages he allegedly sent to Clark on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, from December 16 through January 2.

“Been driving around your house 3x a day,” Lewis reportedly messaged Clark. “But don’t call the law just yet, the publc is allowed to drive by gainbridge..aka Caitlin’s Fieldhouse.”

One word: spooky.

“I’m getting tickets. I’m sitting behind the bench,” he allegedly added in a separate message. In a third, he’s accused of writing, “They said I was sending threatening texts..but the only though on my mind was….CAITLIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNN.”

Clark Feared For Her Safety

Court documents allege that other messages that Lewis sent to Clark were sexually violent. Indeed, Clark told police that she feared for her safety. She took the threat seriously enough to alter her public appearances due to fears of Lewis.

Thankfully, the FBI tracked the IP address of Lewis’ messages to a hotel in Indianapolis. When police then performed a welfare check on Lewis, he told them that he is in “an imaginary relationship” with Clark. He added that he came to Indianapolis on vacation. Officers told Lewis to “not post things like he has been posting … because his posts can be perceived as threatening.”

Despite this, the messages to Clark continued from Lewis.

“It takes a lot of courage for women to come forward in these cases, which is why many don’t,” said Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mear. True enough, but then again Caitlin Clark is no ordinary woman.

“In doing so, the victim is setting an example for all women who deserve to live and work in Indy without the threat of sexual violence. We commend Pacers Sports & Entertainment, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for the swift and serious action that led to this weekend’s arrest,” he added.

Prosecutors have already taken steps to ban Lewis from Hinkle Fieldhouse and Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Clark’s team The Fever play at both of these arenas.

Clark’s Fame

Clark is one of the most famous athletes in the world right now, and is very easily the most impactful athlete in America. Her stardom began at the University of Iowa, and it’s only followed her to the WNBA.

Last month, NCAA president Charlie Baker told a Senate committee that players in last year’s NCAA Division I women’s basketball tournament received “the most brutal, the most troubling and the nastiest” comments of any collegiate sport.

“We talked to a lot of the folks who played in those tournaments, and they said the stuff that comes in on their DMs is a lot worse than what we see on their public handle,” he lamented.
