Last month, we reported that the NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal had a rule change suggestion for the WNBA that he thinks could boost ratings. On Sunday night, O’Neal doubled down on this by calling for this rule change once again.

O’Neal Suggest Rule Change To WNBA

O’Neal took to Instagram to suggest once again that the WNBA lower the rims down from their current ten-foot height. He then called on the reigning WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson to get behind this change as well.

“60% of the fan said Dunking their favorite thing,” wrote O’Neal, 52. “The WNBA has none of that. So they make much less money. Just trying to get you that 300 million dollars you deserve @aja22wilson #shaqwbnacommisioner. Love yall @wnba.”

“Do it for the WNBA all star game and watching the ratings go through the roof,” he later added in a separate comment.

Wilson Doesn’t Support Lowering The Rims

Wilson, however, has previously shut down the idea of lowering the rims. Earlier this year, she suggested that doing so wouldn’t help those who have practiced and played on ten-foot rims for so long.

“What is it gonna do?” Wilson questioned. “I would much rather just gear my offseason to, ‘Okay, vertical, maxing it out, let’s focus on this jumping.'”

“Versus lowering it an inch? That could change all of our shots,” she continued. “Do y’all not understand that?”

Last month, O’Neal proposed that the WNBA should lower the rims while appearing on the Chicago Sky star Angel Reese‘s “Unapologetically Angel” podcast. Like Wilson, however, Reese wasn’t a fan of the idea.

When Reese lamented that the WNBA doesn’t pay players enough, O’Neal replied, “I have a solution for that, nobody’s gonna like my solution.”

O’Neal proceeded to call on the WNBA to lower the rims a little because dunking is “the only thing missing [in the women’s game].”

‘I Hate When Men Say That’

“Just so we can dunk? No,” Reese said. “I hate when men say that.”

O’Neal, however, stuck to his guns.

“Bro, a pretty girl dunking on the rim? I am watching that all day,” O’Neal said.

“A man ain’t turned on by no woman that is dunking,” Reese fired back with a laugh.

“It ain‘t about being turned on,” O’Neal replied. “It’s about seeing things you aren’t supposed to see.”

“What you mean not supposed to see? There is women that can dunk though,” Reese continued.

O’Neal then used Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark as an example to prove his point.

“We never seen that before. That’s my point,” he said. “She’s doing stuff we’ve never seen before. Never seen nobody on a consistent basis. There’s a lot of girls in the WNBA that have done it in spurts, but that game I’m watching y’all in the Final Four, I’m like [expletive].

“And I was a hater, because you know I’m down with you, like: ‘She’s not gonna hit that shot,'” he admitted. “And then, bam, she hits the shot…”

Reese Laments That ‘People Always Disrespect Women

Reese, however, still wasn’t signing on for the lower rims.

“I feel like it still wouldn‘t be good enough. It’s never going to be good enough,” she lamented. “People always disrespect women regardless. They are always going to not give us the same value as a man.”

O’Neal’s idea to boost the WNBA’s ratings is certainly a controversial one! Only time will tell if they ever actually do it!
