WNBA star Brittney Griner and her wife, Cherelle, announced the arrival of their first baby. And guess what? It’s a boy!
“That’s my man. He is amazing,” Griner said in an interview with CBS Sports. “They said, as soon as you see them, everything that you thought mattered just goes out the window. That’s literally what happened.”
The little boy, born July 8th, was conceived via in-vitro fertilization. He weighed 7 pounds 8 ounces.
The Phoenix Mercury center also revealed her preference for a nickname.
The news wasn’t quite public yet during the start of the CBS interview, and host Terrika Foster-Brasby made some assumptions, telling Griner excitedly, “You’re about to be a Mom!”
“Pops! Pops!” Griner corrected.

Griner also pointed out that they intend to name their new baby “Bash.” And leaving Bash behind due to basketball is going to be rough, she revealed.
“It kind of sucks because I’ve got to leave, but at the same time, he’ll understand,” the nine-time All-Star said. “My whole phone is turned into him now.”
Griner made an appearance this past weekend at the WNBA’s orange carpet event before the All-Star game.
She then contributed 10 points and 7 rebounds in Team USA’s losing cause against Team WNBA, where the Olympic squad was topped, 117-109.

Griner’s Russia Ordeal
Brittney Griner was arrested in Russia in February 2022 on drug charges for possessing cannabis oil. She was sentenced to 9 years in prison after a trial in which she pleaded guilty, claiming it was an accident.
Griner was released in December 2022 as part of a prisoner swap in which the U.S. exchanged her for Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout.
Throughout the entire harrowing ordeal, wife Cherelle stood by her side. And now, Bash is meeting his Pops roughly together 19 months after the WNBA star’s release from the Russian penal colony.
Griner, according to the Daily Mail, previously had twins with ex-wife and fellow WNBA player Glory Johnson in 2015. The pair divorced a year later.
