A massive brawl broke out during the Chain Race on Saturday night at Bowman Gray Stadium affectionally called The Madhouse in Winston-Salem, North Carolina after multiple cars wrecked.
If you are unfamiliar with the Chain Race, it sees two cars tied together via a chain as the they race against other cars tied together.
On Saturday, June 11th, a massive wreck occurred in one of the corners that saw six cars get collected.
As the cars attempted to get entangled a whole new group showed up in the corner and drove right through them even detaching one of the cars from its partner.
One of the vehicles drives up and over another competitor’s entire tire in order to get through the pile up.
While it seemed multiple vehicles made it through the wreck and were able to continue the race, a number of vehicles were still tied together in the corner. They would eventually manage to get out of the apex of the corner only to come to a stop at the corner exit.
After the vehicles came to a stop one of the drivers leaped out of his vehicle and a massive brawl ensues. One driver can be seen flipping up and over the roof of a car. Another driver appears to get pinned on the decklid of a vehicle as multiple people began throwing haymakers at him.
Event staff, dressed in pink shirts, attempt to break up the fight, but to no avail. As more drivers stop their vehicles get out and join the fray. One driver even exited vehicle took is helmet off and used it as a weapon to throw into the middle of the melee.
While the fight continues, you can even see some vehicles continue to race going around them on the inside. The brawl did not let up even while these drivers continued the race. While event staff attempt to break up two drivers, one is getting obliterated on the ground as two people drop bombs on him. One man even kicks him while he’s on the ground.
After about two minutes law enforcement officers can be seen running across the infield to intervene. However, by that time, the event staff appeared to have finally broken up the brawl.
However, it appears that one person might have been knocked unconscious as you can hear onlookers saying, “He’s out,” when the officers arrive.
As law enforcement begins to assess the scene, the track’s announcer declares the winners.
An ambulance does eventually arrive on the scene as well, but two of the drivers who seemed to have taken some heavy damage do gather themselves and walk off. One of them does get taken over to the ambulance for an inspection.
