During the final stage of the race, Austin Hill, got mired back in traffic after he found himself blocked into his pit stop that cost him precious seconds on the pit road. He originally came on to pit road in third. He would end up restarting the race in ninth.

Things wouldn’t improve from there. Following a caution on lap 56, Hill restarted the race in 17th.

He would then get collected in an accident with 38 laps left in the race involving Jeremy Clements. His car would suffer significant left front damage. However, he would eventually recover and finish the race in 9th.

During the race, while Hill was trying to recover from his mistake on pit road and the wreck, he did spin out Myatt Snider, who eventually finished the race in 14th.

Following the race, it appears he and Snider were having a discussion about their run in on the track. During that discussion, Hill cold clocks Snider sending him reeling backwards. It’s unclear if he hits the pavement or not.

Nevertheless, Hill then appears to charge forward and tries to put him in some kind of chokehold. The two then appear to wrestle and grapple with each other on the ground before a number of people separate them.

Hill spoke to FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass following the race about his race and his attack on Snider, “I’m trying to come back through the field and the 31 comes and cuts across my nose. I haven’t looked at that replay either. But I was tight to the curb and he comes across my nose and spins in front of me. I’m trying to check up and then I get all kinds of damage and our day was done from there.”

“I don’t even know how we finished ninth or whatever it was we finished. Steering was way off. It was like at the 3 o’clock position. I was doing everything I could to try and get back up there. And was hoping for something to potentially to happen the 7. I knew the 16 was having issues. All we could do was hope and pray something happened to the 7 and the 19 didn’t win and we were going to have enough,” he said.

Specifically addressing his attack on Snider, Hill said, “Well, I’m standing at my car and somebody came up to me and starts running their mouth. I kept warning them to walk away. I’m already mad that I’m not in the playoffs and about situations that happened on the race track and they just kept on and kept on and kept on and they ended up saying the right words that pissed me off enough and some things happened.”

Pockrass also reported, “Saw Myatt Snider here as he was leaving and he said he tried to have a civil conversation with Austin Hill.”

According to NASCAR.com, NASCAR officials are reviewing the altercation. The outlet reports, “a spokesperson noted that officials will speak to members of both teams regarding the incident.”

As noted above, Hill was eliminated from playoff contention. Ty Gibbs, Josh Berry, Noah Gragson, and Justin Allgaier will compete for the championship at Phoenix this upcoming weekend.
